Bournemouth considering appointing manager of highly rated Europa League club

AFC Bournemouth are already considering on appointing Kjetil Knutsen, the manager of highly rated Europa League club FK Bodø/Glimt.

Scott Parker was sacked on Tuesday morning after just four games into the Premier League season and off the back of their humiliating 9-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

He admitted his squad “needed help” and the club needed to decide what they wanted to do this season.

In a statement, co-owner Maxim Dean insisted it was “unconditional” that the manager and club were “aligned”.

Gary O’Neil will now take temporary charge of the Cherries alongside a coaching staff of Shaun Cooper and Tommy Elphick with the next game against Wolves on Wednesday.

FootyInsider write: “Knutsen has done an outstanding job with Norwegian minnows Bodo/Glimt who have won back-to-back league titles and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League last season.

“Bodo just missed out on qualifying for the Champions League this season and have been drawn alongside Arsenal, PSV and Zurich in the Europa League group stages.

“The Norwegian’s work at Bodo has not gone unnoticed with the likes of Norwich City, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers being linked with moves for his services and now Bournemouth could make a move for the 53-year-old.

“His side beat Jose Mourinho’s Roma 6-1 in the group stages of last season’s Europa Conference League before being knocked out by the Italian club in the quarter-finals.”

KNUTSEN’S MANAGERIAL STATS:

Fyllingen/Fyllingsdalen – 28 August 2009 until 15 October 2013 – 93 games, 58 wins, 12 draws, 23 defeats, 62.37 win %
Åsane – 1 January 2014 until 31 December 2016 – 95 games, 40 wins, 24 draws, 31 defeats, 42.11 win %
Bodø/Glimt – 1 January 2018 until Present – 186 games, 106 wins, 46 draws, 34 defeats, 56.99 win %
Total – 374 games, 204 82 88 54.55 win %

Sean Dyche – 9/4
Kjetil Knutsen – 5/1
Chris Wilder – 13/2
Jonathan Woodgate – 8/1
John Terry – 10/1
Thierry Henry – 10/1

Harry Redknapp believes Sean Dyche would be a fantastic choice for Bournemouth, but said it would be a ‘miracle’ for anybody to keep them up.

He said: “They must have somebody in mind. Look at Eddie Howe, look at the job he did there. Did Eddie go or was he half pushed?

“If Eddie can go after what he achieved at Bournemouth the nothing surprises me.

“There’s obviously a breakdown in communication between the two of them.

“Where they go from there, I don’t know. I’m racking my brains about who is around who they can go for.”

When asked about Sean Dyche, Redknapp said: “He’s a good manager. Good guy, top class.

“If I was going to take somebody, he’d be top of my list.

“I’m a big Bournemouth fan and go every game. Anybody who comes in and keeps them up with that squad will do a miracle, it would be a fantastic achievement.”

Fans gave their reaction with Bournemouth reportedly considering appointing Kjetil Knutsen, the manager of highly rated Europa League club FK Bodø/Glimt…

@UTCInAllDepts: High risk to go from Norwegian to English top flight but I suspect the club have tracked him for a while. As the saying goes… “in all departments”! #afcb

@AddyFi: Always been a fan, from the 3 minutes I’ve known who he is 🤣

@lbvegz: Bmouth’s squad is totally shit but then again he almost led Glimt to the Champions League so why not

@mart_jamie: Got a quality track record, would prefer Dyche but if he fancies a bigger job this would be class

@96bol: Led Bodo/Glimt to their first and second ever titles. Including a season where they only lost one game. Looks promising 👍🏻 #afcb

@BenPawlowski21: Hadn’t heard of him until 30 seconds ago. Kjeyil Knutsen’s barmy army!!

@ArtOfMatty: I have no idea who he is. Get him in.

@Ben_ives97: This is something I’d be very keen for! #afcb

@Buntingfootball: Kjetil Knutsen would be exciting for Bournemouth. Knutsen’s style is simple win the ball as quickly as possible, press the opponents in their half. The philosophy is to create overloads especially on the wings. He would make Bournemouth exciting and very attack minded #AFCB

@AzeezThings: That would be an UNREAL move

@KevLongSZN: What an upgrade that would be

@AaronDoesYT: What an appointment this would be

@CT02798: Dear lord I’m on my knees

@Andrews22571: Noooooooooo!!!!!!!! Wanted Knutsen as the next Rangers manager, since Graham Potter isn’t realistic these days
