Bolton’s Victor Adeboyejo ruled out of a cup clash after suffering bizarre injury

Bolton’s Victor Adeboyejo ended up getting ruled out of a cup clash after suffering from a rather bizarre rarely seen injury.

It turned out that the 26 year old was due to be part of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy fixture against Barrow, which Bolton won, but was forced to pull out after he felt discomfort in his ribcage and back.

Now Bolton boss Ian Evatt have revealed just what happened to his player, explaining that discomfort was all caused because of a “powerful” sneeze.

Speaking to The Bolton News after the win against Barrow, Evatt said: “Victor has been suffering with a nasty back injury and a sneeze set it off yesterday believe it or not.

“We have had it scanned and should have the results very soon, everyone remembers the challenge at Charlton, he was OK at the time.

“But then he had a pretty hefty sneeze – now Victor is a powerful boy and even his sneezes are powerful.

“He felt a bit of a crack in between his ribs and we are hopeful it is just a cartilage or muscular issue but until we had a good look at the scan we won’t know.”

Evatt added: “I have to start having a long look at myself when players start getting injured sneezing,” he smiled. “That is just the way things seem to be going at the moment, but we have to deal with it.”

There had been transfer speculation recently regarding Adeboyejo with the likes of Championship sides Plymouth and Oxford and Turkish club Goztepe making an enquiry, with a 7-figure bid also been rejected in the last week of the English summer transfer window.

Despite the Turkish window still open until mid-September (13th), Evatt says: “Victor will be going nowhere, absolutely nowhere.”

The Bolton News writer Marc Iles tweeted: “After Victor Adeboyejo ruled himself out of a game after sneezing, I’m throwing the floor open to nominations for the strangest injury sustained by a #bwfc player, past or present. Let me know your suggestions…”
