Bolton’s Dapo Afolayan is set to be handed a three match ban by the FA over an off the ball incident at Lincoln on Friday.
The 25 year old was charged with violent conduct in the 1-1 draw at the LNER Stadium, relating to an incident in the 57th minute.
It saw Imps defender Lasse Sorensen falling to the ground in the build-up to the Trotters’ equalising goal – but now video footage of the infringement shows just what happened. Might want to have full screen for this clip…
Here it is. Definitely a 3 game ban for that. Guilty pic.twitter.com/WR4R30jCE8

Afolayan appears to elbow his opponent in the face, which has led to the Football Association stepping in after it was missed by match referee Geoff Eltringham and his assistants.
An official statement, posted via the FA Spokesperson Twitter handle, read: “Bolton Wanderers FC’s Oladapo Afolayan has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E1.1 following the EFL League One fixture against Lincoln City FC on Friday 30 December 2022.
“It is alleged that the forward’s behaviour during the 57th minute of the fixture constituted violent conduct.
“He has until Sunday 1 January 2023 to provide a response.”
The game itself was a relative fractious affair. Eoin Toal was on hand to flick in Aaron Morley’s 58th-minute corner to cancel out Ben House’s 10th-minute opener.
Danny Mandroiu slid a free-kick through for House to run onto and slot home his 7th goal of the season.
The 17th minute saw Lincoln almost doubled their lead seven minutes later when Walsh met a flick-on to send his headed effort just wide.
Wanderers tried to threaten for the first time after the break, with Morley delivering a couple of dangerous balls into the box as Ian Evatt’s side pressed for an equaliser in front of the bumper travelling support.
Temperatures increased as Walsh went into the book following a number of confrontations and Bolton then handed out some punishment of their own as they got an equaliser with almost an hour gone.
Bolton had looked a threat from set-pieces and when Morley put in another, Toal stooped at the near post to meet a corner and flash home a header to open his account.
“We didn’t win the game based on the first half,” said Evatt, as per Bolton’s official club website.
“The first half wasn’t acceptable and wasn’t good enough for our standards.
“We’ve set much higher standards than that and it was purely down to energy and attitude.
“It’s all right getting up and having the right energy and attitude for the big occasions but it’s games like this that really challenge you.
“You can’t have any days off. You have to make sure you’re ready to play every minute of every day in this league, otherwise you get found out.
“First half it wasn’t good enough. We conceded a really poor goal, didn’t move the ball quick enough and were too passive in and out of possession.
“But again, this group of players, once we have stern words and we have a bit of a fall-out, they respond and they responded second half and should have won the game.
“We got ourselves back level, they had a man sent off – which probably makes things a little bit more difficult because they just sacrifice completely and have no ability to attack almost,” added Evatt, who now takes his side to top-six rivals Barnsley on Monday.
“It’s all us. We created two big opportunities, two in particular that we have to take, but that’s really been the story of the last few months. We’ll just keep our heads down and keep going.
“It’s an away point, which isn’t the worst in the world. They’ve not lost here, and it was pretty much all us in the second half.
“Credit to the players. In the second half they came out, had a right go and got something from the game.
“I thought in the second half we showed everybody what a good team we are.
“It’s just disappointing and a real reminder to the players that you cannot have a day off.”
Lincoln’s Mark Kennedy said, as per their website: “I thought we were outstanding, resilient, disciplined and structured. We showed a lot of heart and it was a brilliant response from Boxing Day. I thought every player was outstanding.
“It is difficult after watching us on Boxing Day to come out and say this happened or that happened it wasn’t good enough, it basically wasn’t us, and I thought tonight was a real reflection of us.
“The atmosphere was amazing and I really enjoyed it. It was a real special night in terms of the fans.
“I know we drew today, and we want to win games, but I think the fans have walked away very proud of the team, likewise we are very proud of them.”
This is what fans said with Bolton’s Dapo Afolayan to be handed a ban by the FA over the off the ball incident at Lincoln…
@craigcoeyo: Obvious the Bolton fans commenting didn’t watch the game. Bunch of play acting divas. Ref was utterly hopeless and fell for it, totally lost control of the game
@RWillows: Evatt will still blame it on us 😂 non league style gamesmanship
@markshepdog123: Why did none of the officials not see the incident
@bwfcharvey: Let’s see the decision making process from now on, rather than you just doing whatever the fuck you want.
@Rae_Doherty_93: They can take our players out left right and centre get away with it but we are the bad guys…. Nothing new
@cookson_max: Ah things you love to see 😁
@drac_uk: What a joke. The ref allowed Lincoln to push, kick and even try to break a leg. Very poor
@bwfcanthony02: Watching it back. Lincoln player looking for it running into him
@Rae_Doherty_93: They was being little wet wipes all game rolling around on floor like a children. Time wasting and taking our players left right and centre but we are always the bad ones. Fuck off 🤣
@bwfc454: Fucking ridiculous, every week he gets kicked & nothing gets done. If it’s the video I’ve just of Afolayan in the box what was worse than that with what happened with George Johnston. Royally trying to fuck us over #bwfc
@ColBwfc: Ahhhhh fuck off 🤦🏻♂️ #BWFC
@jordbrown96: How has the assistant not seen this? 😶
@philbauer81: Tough one for assistant. Happens deep in box. Loads of bodies, plus everyone looking at ball going to near post. No one in ground saw it. But agree he should see it
@DavidBr46275369: What on earth was the linesman looking at. That is what he’s supposed to be looking for.
@AndyPearson68: Holy 💩 did they score from that 👀 horrible nasty tw@
