Bognor lose 6-1 and end up having three players sent off in pre-season friendly

Bognor Regis Town suffered a humiliating thrashing when they played at Gosport Borough in a pre-season friendly last night.

The Isthmian League Premier Division side took on Southern League Premier Division South club Gosport Borough, but ended up losing 6-1 and had three players sent off.

Liam Robinson put the hosts one up after 2 minutes on the clock with a diving header, slotting past the Bognor keeper.

On the 19th minute, Theo Lewis made it 2-0 to Gosport by tapping the ball home from a yard out.

A superb free-kick from Rory Williams put his side 3-0 up after just under half an hour of the match played out.

Just before half time, Bognor’s Dan Smith rounded Gosport keeper Petar Durin who had a mix up with his defenders.

It didn’t take long for Boro to extend their lead to 4-1, it took just a minute into the second half as Robinson won a penalty and was then scored by ex-Rock player George Barker.

The forward got his second of the game and Gosport’s fifth after 57 minutes, with a low strike down to the keepers right.

The drama stepped up a notch on the 68th minute as Tommy Leigh was sent off after a challenge in the middle that created a mini-melee.

Stuart Green got yellow carded for his protests at the decision.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, Rocks skipper Harvey Whyte received his second yellow, the reason unknown. He was dismissed along with Dan Smith.

Gosport’s Sam Argent made it 6-1 not long after that, guiding past the keeper and finish of his side’s perfect display in what was a crazy game of football.
