Blackpool’s friendly with Cadiz cut short after scuffle breaks out between players

Blackpool’s pre-season friendly with Cadiz cut short by a few minutes, after a scuffle breaks out between players on the touchline.

It seems the heat really got to those on the pitch on Friday afternoon with things boiling over during the game out in Andalusia, Spain.

A goalless draw played out against Segunda Division outfit Cadiz CF, who were recently relegated from La Liga.

Neil Critchley mentioned after the game about their opponents being feisty, a work that really described the type of game it was judging by the flying tackles, kick outs and the scrapping come the 86th minute.

The teams were tied at halftime, but Blackpool had the most opportunities, especially with Sonny Carey causing issues for the Spanish outfit.

After making five changes during halftime, Blackpool still couldn’t break the deadlock through in the second half, which ended on a sour note as seen above.

The Seasiders saw CJ Hamilton making a move early on and sent a ball in for Hayden Coulson, but it went over his head. The Seasiders had a chance in the 17th minute with Kyle Joseph winning the ball and passed it to Ashley Fletcher, only for the shot to be blocked, then Sonny Carey’s saw his follow-up saved.

Blackpool continued to put pressure on Cadiz, Albie Morgan seeing his shot comfortably saved by David Gil after receiving a pass from Carey.

Cadiz then had a chance on the 37th minute, only for Richard O’Donnell to keep out Chris Ramos’ shot.

Blackpool went back on the threat, Hamilton’s pass to Fletcher blocked by a Cadiz defender just as half time approached.

Five changes were made at half time, Cadiz then had an opportunity to go ahead through Roger Marti, well placed but scuffed his effort.

The match ended at 0-0, a few minutes early due to the scuffle.

Blackpool Starting XI: O’Donnell (Chapman 67), Pennington (Sassi 45), Casey (Lankshear 67), Husband (Hill 67), Hamilton (Moore 67), Norburn (Finnigan 45), Morgan (Apter 45), Carey (Jones 67), Coulson (Ashworth 45), Joseph (Daniels 67), Fletcher (Rhodes 45)

Blackpool Subs: Chapman, Sassi, Lankshear, Ashworth, Hill, Finnigan, Jones, Apter, Daniels, Rhodes

Blackpool boss Neil Critchley said post-match: “It was a competitive game, which we knew it was going to be.

“We knew we were going to need to take a big step forward from last week, and we have done that. I think we played very well throughout the whole game, where we played better football, played through the pitch more and played forward more. Other than one chance they had, I think we defended really well.

“We planned to play some of the players slightly longer, and we made five changes at half-time before making some more changes midway through the second half. We knew it was going to be a feisty game, and it certainly was at times. You therefore have to compete in possession, out of possession and in your duels and we did that. You have to remain disciplined as well and we did that. We were a bit wasteful in some moments, but there were some real positive signs.

“We’ve hopefully come through the game with no injuries, and the young boys came on as well, so I think it tops off a good week for us.”

“To see the supporters and then for us to share time together at the end was really special,” he said.

“It’s what makes Blackpool Blackpool and why we all love the football club. Those moments are about creating memories and that will last for me and the players for some time.”

“Overall, I’ve been delighted with the players and how they have worked all week,” he said.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have used such fantastic facilities and the football staff have been outstanding. To come together as a group with some new signings and all of the staff, you can see there has been a real togetherness with everyone. When the tough moments arise this season, this will stand us in good stead.”

This is how fans reacted after Blackpool’s friendly with Cadiz gets cut short after a scuffle breaks out between players…

@Josko_Gvardiola: Wowzers! 😱😱🤯

@powellBFC93: Give Moore the captains arm band. No messing around, little flick of the ball at his face. Payback for Rhodes. Love it.

@DanielFranks85: Seaside aggro….. ft on 87 minutes 👀

@BH2211FC: We’ve had a decent workout (despite the mass brawl in the end) we still need some creativity in midfield so we are still a few players away from competing at the top. We still need a AM, CB and a CM. Possibly replacements if Joseph and Gabriel are going. Onto Sunderland!

@jkanalysis7: Can’t take them lot anywhere can ya 🙄

@dan_masonn01: Payback for the Euros?
