BBC announce the FA Cup First Qualifying Round match they will televise

It’s that time of year again, the BBC announce the FA Cup First Qualifying Round match they will televise, and it should be a cracker.

The early rounds of the FA Cup qualifiers have been streamed on the BBC since 2017, which has not only put non league clubs on the map, but also earned them a welcome financial boost for being on the telly.

A game from every stage is be live-streamed across BBC Sport’s digital platforms, allowing audiences to watch the game live on PC, mobile or connected TV. Matches will also be available live and on-demand on BBC iPlayer.

The BBC will show the game between Bury AFC and North Shields in the FA Cup first qualifying round.

The game at Stainton Park on Saturday, 3 September at 12:30 BST will be broadcast live on the BBC Red Button, Sport website and iPlayer.

Bury AFC are a fan-owned English association football club representing the town of Bury, Greater Manchester, established in December 2019 following the demise of Bury FC, which had been expelled from the English Football League (EFL). Bury AFC are currently a member of the North West Counties Football League Division One North and won the 2021–22 division championship, earning promotion to the league’s Premier Division for the 2022–23 season. The team play their home games at Stainton Park in nearby Radcliffe through a groundshare agreement with Radcliffe F.C.

North Shields are a football club based in North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England. They reached the 1st round of the FA Cup twice in their history: in 1933–34 and 1982–83. Following their promotion from Northern League Division Two, they got promotion to Northern League Division One which they were promoted from in 2022 as Champions to the Northern Premier League Division One East. They also won the FA Amateur Cup at Wembley in 1969, beating Sutton United. In the 2014–15 season, North Shields repeated their 1969 success by defeating Glossop North End at Wembley in the final of the FA Vase. The club are notable for reaching the final of the FA Vase in the 2014–15 season, where they finished as winners, after beating Glossop North End AFC 2-1 AET.

Steve Rudge, BBC Sport’s head of football, said: “We are delighted that audiences will be able to share in the passion of the FA Cup from the opening stage of the competition. To highlight the tournament from first kick to last will showcase the desire for success in the famous Cup throughout the football pyramid.”

David Newton, the FA’s head of competitions, said: “The Emirates FA Cup is the world’s most loved domestic cup competition.

“We’re delighted that the BBC is widening the competition’s reach by allowing fans the opportunity to follow the drama live, right from the very start through to the showpiece final at Wembley Stadium.”

@thepigeonpost: the beeb too scared to put west – macclesfield on in case we embarrass them and their starboy robbie savage is caught crying on telly.

@brummie_goes_gh: Very tempted by this instead. Could it tie it in with a double header and maybe been get to the @WD_CFC game as well

@Harry698Harry: Class that

@TimDuckworth7: I can hear the sound of people pissing in their kettles from here. 🤣🤣🤣

@MagYorkshire: Fantastic for the club

@jamie3elsy: Lets hope there’s no railings 😂😂 #NE29

@daleskitt: This tie should be played at Gigg Lane… hope common sense can prevail soon and all the different ‘sections’ of Bury supporters can come up with an agreement.
