Batshuayi and Osayi-Samuel fight back as Trabzonspor fans attack Fenerbahce players

Michy Batshuayi and Bright Osayi-Samuel fight back as Trabzonspor fans attack Fenerbahce players amid shocking scenes in Turkey.

After securing a 3-2 victory in an intense encounter, the two sides watched disgraceful scenes play out at the Papara Park stadium.

Following the final whistle, a group of Trabzonspor supporters invaded the pitch and confronted Fenerbahce’s players, forcing them to defend themselves.

The already tense atmosphere inside the stadium was further intensified when objects were hurled onto the pitch by supporters.

Despite the unsettling turn of events, Fenerbahce’s players managed to celebrate their hard-earned three points together in the middle of the pitch, although the violent scenes continued to escalate.

As the lone supporter made their way towards the celebrating players, after somehow managing to evade stewards and get closer to the those on the pitch without any security intervention.

Osayi-Samuel had to defend himself, then threw punches at the attacker, while his teammates and staff came to his aid.

The situation escalated when more fans breached the barricades and rushed onto the pitch.

Videos online captured another supporter running towards Batshuayi, who responded by launching a spinning heel kick to disperse the individual.

The incident highlighted the potential for serious harm, especially when a supporter was seen brandishing a weapon during the chaotic scenes.

Fenerbahce’s players received protection from security forces while attempting to re-enter the changing rooms area.

Ismail Kartal, the Fenerbahce manager, claimed in a statement that his players were assaulted without provocation from their side.

Trabzonspor manager Abdullah Avci expressed similar sentiments to Kartal and acknowledged the distressing nature of the events.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s interior minister, Ali Yerlikaya condemned the violence as he he revealed authorities had already started a probe into identifying the culprits.

Writing on Twitter, he said: ‘After the Trabzonspor-Fenerbahçe football match played this evening, identification efforts regarding the spectators entering the field and an investigation into the events that took place after the match were immediately launched.

‘Sports is, above all, sportsmanship. It is never acceptable for violence to occur on football fields.

‘The public will be informed about the developments.

Statement from FIFA President Gianni Infantino following incidents in Turkey over the weekend:

“The violence witnessed after the Turkish Süper Lig match between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe is absolutely unacceptable – on or off the field, it has no place in our sport or society.

“I have said it before, and I will say it again – without exception, in football, all players have to be safe and secure to play the game which brings such joy to so many people all over the world.

“I call on the relevant authorities to ensure that this is respected at all levels and for the perpetrators of the shocking events in Trabzon to be held accountable for their actions.”
