Bashley sign ex-Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Wimbledon, Crawley player

Bashley have managed to sign ex-Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Wimbledon, Crawley player Matt Tubbs in a ‘major coup’ deal for the club.

The experienced striker, who spent seven seasons in the EFL during his career, joins the Wessex League outfit as a player-coach.

Samuel Jackson and Callum Esnouf were also listed as the other incomers in the same transfer announcement with 37 year old Tubbs, who started in the Cherries’ youth system.

He has since played across the football pyramid, and had two senior spells with Bournemouth, one on loan when they were in League Two, scoring once in eight appearances during 2008/09.

He then returned to Dean Court 2011/12 for a season and a half in League One, scoring 7 times in 42 league appearances.

Alongside his role at Brockenhurst College, Tubbs had most recently been a player-coach for Southern League Premier South outfit Gosport Borough.

Tubbs has never played as low as the ninth tier before, so he will be hoping to guide Bashley up the table, with the club currently sitting fifth, with 53 points from 25 games played and 11 points from the league leaders with a fair few games in hand over those above them.

Since starting his senior career with hometown Salisbury, Tubbs has played in over 500 games and scored more 250 goals in his career.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Bashley Football Club are absolutely delighted to confirm the arrival of three new faces to the Glen Mex.

The Bash can confirm the return of former defender Samuel Jackson, young prodigy Callum Esnouf, and former AFC Bournemouth striker Matt Tubbs.

Chairman Paul Lucas and President Mike Cranidge have been working day and night over the last 72 hours to get these deals over the line – with Sam Jackson making his first appearance upon his return in Tuesday night’s win versus Hythe & Dibden.

Callum Esnouf – who has been highly sought-after – joins the Black and Gold straight after his 16th birthday.

Additionally, Matt Tubbs has arrived as a player-coach – with the hope his wealth in experience will help the boys in the run-up to our promotion push this season.

Tubbs has accumulated over 150 appearances in the Football League with such as AFC Bournemouth, Portsmout and AFC Wimbledon. The 37 year-old most recently has been playing at Verwood Town.

We have no doubt you will make all three signings welcome at the Glen Mex in the coming weeks and months!
