There has been backlash online as Troy Deeney calls out Thomas Tuchel on poor communication and bad optics as England manager.
HLTCO tweeted: “Tuchel has been to 17 matches in the 47 days since he officially became England boss, it’s not as if he’s sat at home with his feet up is it?
“We’ve not even played a game under him yet and the usual media traits are showing. This country is its own worst enemy sometimes.”
“I’d like to see the England manager doing a little bit of work.” 👀

Shebahn: On to this other story, Thomas Tuchel. Work from home arrangement is the headline in the back of the…
Troy: That’s all he’s done.
Shebahn: Well, exactly. Been in yet. Well, that’s the thing. So he has now, missed, three Premier League weekends, the third round of the FA Cup, and all four Carabao Cup semifinal matches in his first six and a half weeks as England Head Coach. Do you think it bothers you that he’s bouncing between his life in Germany to England?
Troy: No. It doesn’t bother me about that. It bothers me that I don’t know what we’re trying to do. I still don’t, he hasn’t come out and told us what how we’re gonna play, what we’re trying to do, who is building a team around. I don’t know what we’re doing. So we’ve gotta wait. He was announced in April/August. Something like that. In fact, it was in fact, like, towards the end of the year anyway. And then we haven’t heard a press conference where he’s saying, I plan to win the World Cup by doing x. That would not happen anywhere else. He’d have to have a full plan of how, where, what, and why. And we see him tied up in Switzerland once with Faye Carruthers, got a 20 second interview with him. Can we just see what, you know, what we’re gonna do, please?
Jeff: I mean, you know, hey. Look. £5,000,000 in his eighteen month contract. You know? Why would you expect him to go to games? But slightly in his defence. Slightly in his defence. FA Cup weekend, he’s gonna be thinking a lot of sides are gonna play reserve teams. Carabao Cup quarter same thing. They’re gonna think, you know, maybe we were playing reserve teams.
Troy: And, also, a lot of people work for the FA that go and watch games. I’ve seen a few at South Africa almost the other day looking at people and looking at how it works and and asking certain questions. But I just I would like to see the England manager doing a little bit of work personally.
Jeff: I think he needs to be visible, though.
Troy: Absolutely.
Jeff: He needs to be at grounds, letting the fans see him, letting people realise that he is doing that sort of work. But, look, you know, the the proof’s in the pudding, isn’t it?
Troy: Of course.
Jeff: We do well. We win games. Nobody will care.
Troy: Absolutely.
Jeff: Nobody will care. Yeah. Exactly.
Shebahn: I mean, he’s gone to 17 matches in his first 47 days in charge. So he has gone to games. I suppose it’s just whether he’s doing all the work behind the scenes, you know, and he knows most of these players anyway.
Troy: But that that’s not an excuse, though, is it? Because if we lose, all this has gotta come back up. So you are again, a lot of this about optics. How does it look? And it doesn’t look great if you’re balancing, and none of us know what’s going on. Just in your in your line of work, Jeff, would you prefer to hear what we’re gonna do from an England point of view? What what he’s trying to do?
Jeff: Yeah. But I sort of get why it’s very difficult for him to come out and say, well, I’m gonna play this way, and I’m gonna use these players. I’m not sure about that. I think, you know, he’ll have his own thoughts. We’ll see it when when the first games come.
Troy: Yeah. Not necessarily the players, but I wanna be front footed. I wanna be attacking. I wanna do this. So we can again start that anyway, isn’t he?
Jeff: He’s gunna say that anyway
Troy: But it’s gonna be, like, three days before the game. Before a game against I don’t even know who we’re playing this time around.
Shebahn: So it’s Albania in March. World Cup qualifying.
Troy: So we’ll play Albania, win 27-0.
Jeff: I’ll be Thomas Tuchel right now. I’ll say, we’re gonna be on the front foot against Albania. We’re gonna attack from the start. We’re gonna score as many goals as we possibly can. That’s what he will say, isn’t he?
Troy: Yeah. So, okay. What we’re gonna do when we get to the big games, but you’re gonna do what everybody else does. Panic?
Jeff: Win them.
As mentioned, there was backlash as Troy Deeney calls out Thomas Tuchel on poor communication as England manager…
@_randyAFC: sounds like an overused phrase, but the media has been England’s biggest problem. They need to pipe down and let Tuchel work.
@TheArsenalTom: Always does my head in the idea that Gareth Southgate sitting in the stands made a blind bit of difference. Modern game they get sent all the clips of players in a little package.
@adamkeys_: The fact that Thomas Tuchel hasn’t called Troy Deeney and told what he wants to achieve and given a full breakdown of how he’s going to do it is unacceptable. Completely indefensible.
@leonlegge32: totally agree. under pressure before his first 11 has been put out.
@FulhamTransfer: Couldn’t agree more mate, would this be news if he was English? 🤔
@2FPLGurus: As if Troy Deeney knows what players he is chatting to in the background as well. Such a terrible take. Getting back to the ‘if he isn’t English, he can’t do well’ narrative.
@PintsO_Guinness: Troy Deeney has this incredible ability to talk absolute shite every time he opens his mouth.
@Rayyan_AFC: england manager who isn’t doing interviews and pressers every other day – fantastic. i don’t need to hear him say what he’s going to do that’s going to be so great, i just want to see it. Missed a few games? Let’s judge him on the pitch, if he has a team of representatives he trusts and all feeding back information, if he’s watching recordings and they all are working towards the same goal, if it works on the pitch – great.
@CraigDHoare: Denney has no idea what work he’s done so far…the first England meet-up isn’t until March.
@TamZander5911: I would love to see Troy getting less work, terrible pundit
@suffolkviking29: I’d like to see @talkSPORT employ decent presenters but it will never happen @T_Deeney
@ForeverCDL: England haven’t even kicked a tournament ball yet and Tuchel has already got more criticism than Southgate did in 8 years. These scum are licking their lips waiting for the first real England manager since 2012 to mess up so they can devour him.
@ollox__: Deeney is easily one of the worst footballer turned pundits I’ve ever heard. Chats a load of nonsense all the time
@Jess_wood_11: The day I take Troy Deeney serious is the day I give up with football
@DennyBaldwin: Judge him on results and not what some piss poor gob shite has to say about him
@benstonesfc1: How the hell does Troy Deeney get a job in punditry? The same guy that got sacked from Forest Green because he was a poor man manager. Tuchel hasn’t even taken a game yet and he’s already being criticised. Lets just tell the whole world our tactics if that’s what he wants 😂
@waseem0408: Who gives a fuck what Troy Deeney has to say. Was calling out Rio for being over the top and dramatic as if he’s some voice of reason. Creating issues around a manager that hasn’t even managed his first game yet! He doesn’t have to talk to you or give the media anything.
@Stuart_James10: Tuchel doesn’t need to tell you about how he’s going to plan the management of England, Troy you entitled, insufferable prick
@JackWFC1234: Everything that seems to come out of Troy Deeney’s mouth these days really fucks me off. I don’t know if he’s doing it deliberately but my god he’s annoying.
@Haroldiinho_: I’ve seen Tuchel at more matches than Southgate attended in the run up to the euros. If Tuchel was Tommy Tomkins from east London you’d never see a word uttered about this shite.
@FIFASLAYER7: The guy hasn’t even managed 1 game yet and the media are already hating on him 😑 absolutely pathetic
@ryanhurst377: Since when did we keep tabs and records on England managers missing games & weekends of football ????
@rhys_b16: The guy hasn’t even had his first game yet, and already we are pouring on the negativity. 🙄
