Aylesbury United bidding for former home – Buckingham Road – which is going to auction on Tuesday the 17th of December, with a guide price of £500,000.
This news has gone down incredibly well with football fans in the non league community, with the Ducks having been homeless since they were evicted from the ground in 2006.
The Southern League Division One Central club moved to Buckingham Road in the mid 1980s but in July 2006, the lease on the ground expired and forced them to play outside the ground at Thame United, Leighton Town and Chesham United.
The stadium is still left abandoned, but obviously looks more derelict and overgrown as the years have passed. However that is hopefully set to change for the better.
Back in April 2019, the club revealed they were to make an offer for their old ground but also that they made a failed bid for the stadium earlier this year.
Back then, chairman Graham Read said: “Since we left in 2006 I’ve kept tabs on every movement and ownership of the ground. From receiver to receiver, I’ve been in constant dialogue with the ‘caretakers’ – registering our interest throughout.
“Earlier this year we were invited to tender an offer for the purchase of the site, which we did. Unfortunately we have just heard back with the news that our offer has not been accepted. Although the bid was fair, and, in our opinion, the market value, the current joint receivers are looking to maximize revenue to cover the Banks’ losses.
“Buckingham Road is now being offered on the open market (being advertised in this week’s Estates Gazette), asking for ‘offers on an unconditional basis’.
“As a club we will be resubmitting a bid. To this effect, we are offering/looking for potential investors either by dire, contribution (share ownership) or we may even go down the crowdfunding route. We have and will never give up on our endeavors in returning to Aylesbury, and although some may believe we have outgrown Buckingham Road, it currently seems our quickest route back.”
After finding out that Aylesbury United are bidding for their former home, fans took to give their thrilled reaction – find out what they had to say on the next page.
