Aston Villa player investigated by police amid concerning footage

Aston Villa player Douglas Luiz is being investigated by police after uploading footage of himself online via his Instagram account.

Now it only takes a few seconds to realise how much he loves having a picture taken with some of his much loved cars.

However on one occasion he decided it would be a good idea to video record himself driving a vehicle before taking his eyes of the road to look directly into the camera.

He then decided to sing, all whilst holding his phone in the same hand as the steering wheel, so it’s easy to see why it lead to a police investigation.

After uploading footage of himself, he quickly deleted it following a backlash from his 343,000 Instagram followers with many criticising what he was doing whilst driving on Sunday morning.

It’s reported that West Midlands Police have started looking at the footage after a member of the public sent it through to them amid claims Luiz broke driving laws.

A spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “We have received the footage from a member of the public who uploaded it to our third party reporting portal online.

“Our Traffic Investigation Unit will assess the evidence provided before making a decision on the most appropriate way to proceed.”

BirminghamLive themselves have seen the video which appears to show the 22-year-old driving his car whilst being filmed.

There was reaction which lead to the Aston Villa player being investigated by police…

TheWhiskyWonderer: “We love you Doug but get that phone outta ya hand.”

Jamespavafc: “Love ya but put the f****** phone down .”

ScottKirby83: “Pretty bad example to be setting to all the young villains driving God knows how fast, holding your phone, not even looking at the road.”

a_sensible-viewpoint: “On your phone, going fast, barely looking at the road whilst meant to be in isolation…. then post it online. Bad idea…”.

Matthew_g90: “I’m trying to figure out if he is the Stig and can drive with no hands OR he’s pulled over. If he hasn’t pulled over then that video is ridiculous and wreck-less behaviour.”

Yo.nasan: “Well, that’s one way to earn three points!”

Baxtur: “And the rest”.

An unnamed Villa fan got in touch with BirminghamLive after watching the video and said: “This is bad. A video of him driving holding onto his phone. How many points is that?”

You’d think the player would know better, especially after his teammate Jack Grealish recently got himself in trouble with his vehicle.

He was fined £82,499 and handed a ban from driving for nine months for driving without due care and attention.

CCTV footage shows the shocking moment that Jack Grealish crashes his £90k Range Rover, which was shown in court this week.

The 25-year-old Aston Villa and England player was handed a nine-month driving ban and hit with a £82,000 fine at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded guilty to two offences.

Grealish smashed into three parked vehicles in Solihull on the 29th of March before getting into trouble on the 18th of October after travelling at speeds of up to 98mph on a 70mph limit motorway of the M42.

He smelt of alcohol and was slurring his words and unsteady on his feet after the crash in March, it is claimed. Read more on that by clicking HERE.

He turned up at court using his car as a decoy so that he could fool the media and press as he sneaked in before suddenly getting spotted.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are reportedly considering re-signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, according to The Athletic.

City are said to be considering their options when looking and targeting a midfielder with Pep Guardiola’s side having a buy-back option, which they could activate this summer.

Luiz so far made a total of 51 appearances in the Premier League, bringing in a total of three goals and three assists, and has only missed one league game during the current campaign.

His contract at Villa Park is expected to end in June 2023.
