Aston Villa fans sing taunting chant about Birmingham City being in trouble

Aston Villa fans took to sing a taunting chant about their rivals Birmingham City being in trouble with the English Football League.

A social media clip of the moment Villa fans (at Everton) decided to mock the ongoing saga at the Blues has gone on to get over 50,000 views.

This comes less than week after reports claim that Birmingham City face another EFL charge of investigations into the Championship club’s ownership, according to The Telegraph’s John Percy.

According to reports, two separate investigations are ongoing, with The Telegraph claiming that Birmingham, who was charged last Monday over allegations that they had violated the EFL’s Director’s and Owner’s Test rules, could be punished again.

After last year’s failed takeover, it’s thought that Maxi Lopez, Paul Richardson and Matt Southall were also charged.

They are accused of “acquiring full control of the club, without prior EFL approval”, something to which is being denied. A disciplinary committee will be formed later in 2023.

A second investigation has been launched by the league organisation into who controls the Blues.

It also examines whether Birmingham Sports Holdings Limited, the current owners, has withheld information about how they are being run.

The English Football League may now be close to charging Birmingham, with the investigation focusing on whether Wang Yaohui, a Chinese businessman, is in control of the Championship strugglers without declaring beneficial owner.

Club officials have repeatedly denied that there were any problems with the ownership, yet there is no precedent, and now there is a belief that the matter will be taken seriously.

For flouting financial regulations, Birmingham received a nine-point deduction in 2019.

Aston Villa fans were clearly in happy spirits, having seen their side come away with a 2-0 victory against Everton at Goodison Park.

Ollie Watkins’ excellent goal scoring form in the Premier League continued as his side sealed a win to send Everton back into the relegation zone.

Striker Watkins scored for a fifth consecutive league game, scoring a second-half penalty after Idrissa Gueye was brought down in the box.

This is a devastating defeat for Sean Dyche’s team, who are now in the bottom three. West Ham United and Leeds United each collected three points to ease pressure.
