Arsenal investigate threatening messages sent to Kai Havertz’s wife after Man Utd defeat

Arsenal investigate threatening messages which had been sent to Kai Havertz’s wife after the FA Cup defeat to Man Utd on Sunday.

The striker saw his spot kick saved by Altay Bayindir during the shootout as the Gunners of the competition crashed out.

Posting to her Instagram story, Sophia Havertz uploaded screenshots of threatening messages which had been sent to her Instagram account following the game, including a death threat against her unborn baby.

“I’m going to come to your house and slaughter your baby I’m not joking just wait,” said Instagram user @campo.jr1.

“I hope you have a miscarriage,” said another message, from the Instagram account @kingaimz10.

Sophia Havertz, 25, said in her screenshots: “For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me… I hope you are ashamed of yourself,” the 25-year-old wrote on her Instagram story.

“I’m not sure what even to say but please guys be more respectful. We are better than this.”

The Standard report that Arsenal are now consulting with a third-party investigator which specialises in identifying online abusers, with the strongest action possible likely to be made against the culprits. The accounts have also been reported to Instagram.

Havertz’ wife revealed she was pregnant on Instagram in November 2024. The couple have been publicly dating since 2018.

Kai previously spoke about their relationship in the past, as well as the tribulations of having a partner whilst being a high-profile footballer.

“Football is our life. If you lose a game, of course, you don’t have an easy life as well,” he said during a goal drought period at Chelsea,” […] I think everyone at home, especially my girlfriend, has had some tough weeks as well in the last weeks and months. I think she is happy now again and so am I […] For you guys, it is the same if you have a bad day at work… you… I won’t say the word now but you don’t feel good. Football is a game where we have a lot of pressure on our shoulders.”

Kai and Sophia Havertz got engaged in July 2023, and were married a year later.

Man Utd overcome Diogo Dalot’s sending off to win a penalty shoot-out against Arsenal; Kai Havertz’s penalty was saved and Joshua Zirkzee struck the winning spot-kick.

Bruno Fernandes’ goal was levelled by Gabriel and Martin Odegaard saw his penalty saved in normal time.

Man Utd have since been draw against Leicester in the FA Cup Fourth Round draw.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta:

“Incredible how you don’t win that game. That’s basically [how you] sum it up. The dominance, superiority in relation to the opposition, everything we did to try to win the game. We didn’t deserve it, we didn’t get what we deserved. But there’s an element of putting the ball in the back of the net, we did it once. With the amount of situations, chances, penalties that we had. We didn’t. We go home extremely sad, but I cannot be more proud of my players.

Asked about what he said to Havertz after the game:“To him and to all of them: that I love them, that we all love them. Individually and collectively they are a joy. What this team produces every three days is incredible regardless of what happens. I am not going to lose sight of that, because of a result or two because we didn’t deserve those. What we can do better, let’s try to do it. But it’s difficult to achieve, it’s an emotional part, it’s something related to confidence as well.”

On needing to sign a new striker: “We missed from various ways, from different players. I understand guys that [point of view], but I cannot love our players more and we very much focus on the players we have to perform at the highest level. The rest is not in our hands, not in my hands.”

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim:

“Especially in the first half we played better than in the [Premier League] game. We were better in set-pieces, more aggressive, we showed spirit, even with 10 men.

“The sending-off was really hard on us. There were some opportunities from Arsenal. The players were really tired.

“But I felt since the first minute today was our day. And I felt a connection with our fans.

“When we score first it helps us to suffer. It’s more strength to suffer. We can calm down the game. We are understanding more the way we play – sometimes not playing well but you can control the game in certain moments. It’s clear we’re improving with the way we suffer. It’s a good thing for a team.”

Fans reacted as Arsenal investigate threatening messages sent to Kai Havertz’s wife after Man Utd defeat…

@iamFreshboi: I hope the owners of those accounts are found and prosecuted

@SimonLester24: That’s absolutely disgraceful! 🤦‍♂️

@hotspurreports: That is disgusting.

@rphillip32_: It’s okay to criticize players for their playing because you’re entitled to your opinion but never make it personal. That’s understandable.

@aboyd1888: What the fuck is wrong with people, this is why you should have to provide ID before you sign up to any social media platform. Not proper footy fans these cunts.

@JamesGreenInUK: Utterly vile scumbags. One day I truly wish social media companies did something about this. (I’ll be waiting a long long time I know)

@ssgooner6: What is actually wrong with people? All over 11 silly men kicking around a football… it’s not this deep

@suemcco11: Obv not a Havertz fan but no players/family (or person!!) should ever be getting this abuse it’s just abhorrent. This is why i’m adamant accounts should have to be verified to before you can sign up, nobody should be allowed think they can do this because they’re anonymous. #arsmun #facup

@HullandScouse: That’s fucked up and should have never happen, I can’t believe people act like this over a game.

@noah_smith10: Really really ugly. Our fans have every right to be angry but the way we treat our players when we go through a rough pitch is embarrassing

@WhitePropp: I cannot believe ppl can be so angry over football 🤣

@williamashh: Genuine waste of organs the people who send abuse to players/players family after a game. Even more so to that extent

@caitIin_aIIen: Yeah maybe we don’t deserve to win anything if this is how some fans act when we lose. Football is NOT this deep

@_CFCJamie_: Disgusting vile human beings saying shit like this to a players wife because you lost a game of football
