Angry Man Utd fans protest against Glazers outside megastore as new home kit is unveiled

Angry Man Utd fans protest against the Glazers outside the club’s megastore as their new home kit is unveiled on Tuesday morning.

A group of Manchester United fans took to protest against the owners at around 9:45am to coincide with the kit launch. #boycottadidas and #glazersout were just some of the hashtags used as the protest trended on twitter.

Protest group The 1958 planned this amid fury with the Glazers, with the takeover saga now in its eighth month having been first mentioned last November.

With the new season just seven weeks away, we seem to be no closer to finding out if either Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani or British billionaire Sir Jim Ractliffe will be successful with their offers.

The American owners, who according to the Daily Mail, have drained more than £1billion out of the club since coming into the club in 2005, haven’t decided who should be their successor, despite setting a deadline for final offers passing at the end of April.

The group have grown beyond frustrated, and extra police and stewards were present after hearing of te planned protest outside the shop on Tuesday.

At first, there were hopes that any takeover – or investment – would be completed before the opening of the transfer window, but we’re in the early stages of tat now and Man Utd’s big six rivals are already making moves.

United declined to comment but have previously said that they recognise supporters right to peaceful protest.

A tweet from the 1958 Twitter account read: “DON’T FEED GLAZER GREED! The 1958 will have a presence at the megastore on Tuesday. A legal protest from 9:45am. Be there! Bring your anti Glazer flags and banners! Be loud, be visual. We don’t stop until they sell our club! #GlazersOut #BoycottAdidas”.

Ex-Manchester United captain Patrice Evra urged for the Glazers to decide on their preferred takeover bidder before the start of the 2023/24 season.

“We talk about this deal for how many months now? Since November,” he said to The Times. “I think it is important for the fans, for the players and of course for Erik ten Hag. He is the right man [to be manager].

“We don’t know who is going to be the new owner. We are already 20 miles back from Manchester City. Now, the question is: Can we stop this circus and find a solution and [have] the owner come as soon as possible? We need to find it now, before the season starts. When the season starts, it is already too late.

“Do we know which player is going to come? Do we know which player is going to leave? It is unfair for Erik ten Hag. It brings negative energy around the club.

“The club were already protesting against the Glazers when I signed in 2006, but we hid it because we were winning. I remember the green and yellow shirt and scarf were already at the stadium and I asked Gary Neville what was going on.

“He told me the fans were not happy with the owners. That was 17 years ago. We are talking about the same thing. We need to put an end to it if we want Man United to be back to where they belong.”

In an interview with The Guardian, Gary Neville said: “What you want from leaders is good, clear communication. The Glazer family do the exact opposite.

“They’re in a position of authority, looking after a community – and United’s fans around the world are a global community – but the Glazers haven’t communicated with them for nearly 20 years.

“The sale process is extending to an unpalatable length, everyone’s in the dark and it’s symptomatic. They have to exit but I haven’t got faith that they’ll do the right thing.”

@CFC_Mason2001: Scary protest, that’ll force the glazers to accept £500m less

@MUFC_Si_T: Seen a few Reds moaning that it’s not a massive turnout. Doesn’t matter how many are there they’ve shut down the Megastore. Maximum impact right there. 👍👏👏👏👏👏🇾🇪🇾🇪🇾🇪🇾🇪🇾🇪 #GlazerOut #Mufc

@fuxuropinion: How are people complaining from their nice comfy beds this morning ?!?? Have the most respect for these lads personally 👏🏾🔴

@1968PLW3: Good effort for a Tuesday morning fair play lads

@utdJaack: Everyone saying it’s a bad turnout, it’s 10am on a Tuesday morning when everyone has work and they achieved their goal of shutting the megastore. Respect to them 👏🏼🇾🇪

@bal_mo: Well done to all @ManUtd fans who care for the club 👍🏼. #glazersout

@SolRoper: Long journey from London just for that

@TheKopHQ: Spoilt Brats FC at it again. Spent the most money in World Football on transfers the past decade, but still got their Norwich City scarfs out.

@manutdirishreds: Fair play to the few that turned up and keeping the protests up. 🔰The thousands of Man Utd fans lying in their beds or doing nothing this morning. Why not get down there and support the real fans that are doing this for the club we all love ❤️ #BoycottAdidas 🔰

@carl_thompson70: Actions always speak louder than words. Respect to those who turned out. ✊🏻

@Andy_Dean95: It’s time to go. Read the room #GlazersOut

@cafc_luke_: Must be so hard finishing top 6 in the prem every year and having millions pumped into your club to spend on transfers 😓 #mufc

@AllettShane:
Yes lads and lasses and whoever is there..
It’s a message sent again..
Sell United and fuck off home

@luke1989_1989: Fair play to the few.. but we’re all at work. Needed to be a weekend

@NostalgicNUFC85: Absolutely embarrassing ‘Fan Protest’. For a club that claims to be the biggest in the world they couldn’t even attract 100 fans.

@Merckxissimo: Didn’t need thousands to turn up. Enough to block the entrance, close the shutters and send a message. #GlazersOut
