Ange Postecoglou responds to ‘sacked in the morning’ chants after Nottingham Forest lose 3-2 to Midtjylland in the Europa League.
He said they were entitled to their opinion but insisted his team is on the right track, yet the defeat in what was their first European game at the City Ground for 29 years marked by conceding twice from set-pieces and a late goal.
The result also sees him become the first permanent Forest manager for 100 years to fail to win any of his first six matches.
It was after Valdemar Byskov put the visitors’ 3-1 up when the majority inside the stadium chanted “You’re getting sacked in the morning”.

Speaking after the match, Postecoglou said: “The fans are disappointed, they’re entitled to have an opinion on it and I heard their opinion.
“Nothing surprises me anymore in football. I guess it’s just the climate we’re in and it seems that’s the way we’re going.
“But look, that’s something I can control. My responsibility lies to make sure that we try and get some wins for this football club and progress it.
“I get the mood around the place isn’t going to be great, I understand people’s kind of attitude at the moment, particularly towards me, but I never worry about that. It’s not unfamiliar territory for me.
“I really believe that we’re on the right track and when we get through this period of uncertainty we’ll be on a good path.
“I still think apart from their attitude towards me that they were behind the team and I think that’s the important thing. Of course, I would prefer people are optimistic.
“If we start winning games of football, the atmosphere will change.”
He’s definitely regretting hiring Ange isn’t he…

Ange Postecoglou, speaking to TNT Sports: “Really disappointing. Just really, really poor goals we conceded in the first half.
“Allowed the opposition to get comfortable in the game.
“Story of our last few games – key moments let us down.
“We just let ourselves down in key moments of the game. Nothing organisational just in those moments we have not shown the same desire and determination to the opposition.”
On Murillo’s injury being a factor in Midtjylland’s opening goal: “No.”
On Murillo’s injury: “I’m not sure. I haven’t seen.”
On a possible Forest penalty in the first half: “That would disguise my disappointment with the way we dealt with the key moments. We allow refereeing decisions to dictate the outcome, it shouldn’t even come to that. We should have handled the situation better.”
On regressing: “I don’t know. Progress is us winning games of football and we haven’t done that.
“Football has been compelling at times, but you have got to keep winning games of football and that’s what we will keep trying to do.”
On the future: “Just got to keep going. There is no hiding in the sport we’re in. Got to keep your head up and recover. We have a tough game against Newcastle at the weekend.”
On Forest players not being onboard: “I don’t think I have seen anything that they’re not onboard or trying to implement the stuff we’re talking about.”
“Nothing surprises me in football anymore” 😳

Michail Antonio said on TNT Sports: “I feel he will get extra time because he was appointed by the owner,” former Forest and West Ham striker Michail Antonio said on TNT Sports.
“He will give him extra time to get his philosophy going, because right now it feels he is struggling to get his tactics across to the players.”
Martin O’Neill added: “Wins are the name of the game – it is as simple as that.
“The crowd were already against him in many aspects, but we are six games in, you’d hardly know the name of the tea lady after that amount of time.”
On the boos, O’Neill said: “You have to deal with all the noise around you. You can’t allow it to dictate everything, but you can’t avoid it.”
“Only six games in. You hardly know the name of the tea lady, forget everything else.”

We’re having a rough time of it atm but what i will say is this is what football is all about. While our fans are all screaming for the manager to get sacked and singing about nuno, these guys had an absolute ball. I’m gonna enjoy the Europa for as long as we’re in it #NFFC pic.twitter.com/O3kbMJc5kr

Here’s how fans reacted as Ange Postecoglou responds to ‘sacked in the morning’ chants after Forest lose to Midtjylland…
@Beniesta_: Have you tried writing a STRONGLY worded letter to UEFA?
@rst96_: I’d write to UEFA for a replay lads!
@redmannffc: Maranakis has done great things. In sacking Nuno and appointing this bum he’s probably destroyed the most exciting year of football we could have had #NFFC
@Jarv1223_: Perhaps sacking the manager that got 7th and built a successful squad around playing tight and compact and then sacking him for a manager who plays high line tiki taka after the season had started wasn’t the cleverest of ideas mr Marinakis
@TrickyTreesDave: Build up play is so slow Midtjylland could go home have dinner and come back again and still defend with 11 men
@kwudi_1: Sacking Nuno who built success of modern Forest with his compact/counter attacking approach and replacing him with a manager with a diametrically opposite philosophy has to be the dumbest decision ever by a club owner 😁😂😂
@R_J_M_11: So you wrote an Email to get palace kicked out of the Europa League so you could then embarrass yourselves in said competition 🤣🤣. You should have just settled for the conference league lads
@SarcasticForest: Appointment has set us back four years. No defensive solidity. Lack of ideas going forward. No connection with fans. No harmony off the pitch. Our rise in four years has been impressive but not as impressive as ripping it all up in four months. Appalling.
@AllyBarron: FC Mitdjylland are everything Forest are not. Well coached, fantastically organised and planned. Tactical substitutions and the players all know their roles. We’re just hoping something works. #AngeOut #NFFC
@Daddy_No_Leggs: I didn’t want Ange, didn’t understand what Marinakis saw in him. Completely ripped every shred of the good feeling the club had. There is no coming back from those chants and that toxicity. Needs to be replaced before international break #nffc
@ImJamieMartin: This is absolutely embarrassing. Ange Postecoglu has lost the fans, and this team has lost any defensive competence it’s had. This is just shocking. Our own fans singing “sacked in the morning”. Enough said. Embarrassing. Now singing about Nuno… yeah. I hate to seem reactive, because I want to give a manager time, but this is honestly just so poor. I genuinely don’t see where our points come from.
@nffckez: Ange fuck off. Times up. I’ve seen nothing. Those chanting Nunos name however… embarrassing. Bottled UCL. Loses to the worst side in the league at the time. Engineers a move away. And some idiots are dick riding him. Fuck off. #nffc
@NE1Geordies: Not a #NFFC fan but it infuriates me watching Ange at another club, on the sidelines shaking his head like he’s not accountable. Neither reactive or proactive, just looks on as his lack of tactics get exposed whist trying to distance himself what’s happening on his watch, again
@BenHarries: An Edu interview is needed. Why are we going backwards like this? Can’t win defending set pieces this badly. Can’t win with no confidence. All been a mess since the end of last season.

…transfer windows for managers will never happen, owners want freedom to hire/fire, media loves merry-go-round and some managers want out, but it would force clubs to appoint more carefully, plan more long-term and try to work things out. Column … 2/2 https://t.co/cFLcZuq5er
