Andy Robertson gives his first interview on signing for Tottenham Hotspur after spending 9 years with Liverpool.
Speaking to the club’s media, he spoke his eagerness to get going, to help push Spurs up the Premier League table following back-to-back 17th place finishes.
He also reflected on why his move to Tottenham didn’t happen in January, the players he knew already, and why he chose to be shirt Number 3 instead of his usual 26.

He said via SPURSPLAY: “I’m obviously excited to be here. It was a bit different in terms of the signing being announced and then having to go to the World Cup and not being able to do anything.
“So first day’s been good, getting to meet people, forgetting people’s names and trying to work my way round the training ground and things like that.
“Yeah, I was very fortunate I’ve not had to do it for so long and being at one club for nine years is a long time, but it’s also exciting.
“It’s perfect for this time in my career to have that and that’s why when the opportunity came up I was excited to go for it and now that it’s here then I’m excited to hopefully, you know, keep progressing in my career and keep doing good things and hopefully I can do that in a Tottenham shirt.
“I don’t think it is a secret that it nearly happened in January and it didn’t for one reason or another but then obviously once the January window closed a lot of options and things like that came away and it was all about making the right decision.
“I just think this club’s a massive club, amazing training ground, amazing stadium, know, a lot of fans, a big fan base.
“I’ve played here plenty of times and I know that they can get right behind their team and it’s a really big club and I just think it’s a club that’s going places.
“I think the last couple of years, especially from the league point of view, has maybe not been up to the standards that the Tottenham fans expected.
“Last season they probably showed a lot of tenacity, I suppose, to get to the end and stay up, but I think now even being in day one, there’s a huge determination to not allow that happen again and it’s up to us to make sure we’re better to make sure that doesn’t happen.
“So the manager is a huge pull, you know I’ve obviously had chats from today I’ve obviously had phone calls with him and you know how many staff seem you know so good at what they do and how they want to play and things like that. I think this is club that has gone places and it’s a perfect time for me to be a part of it.
“It was just a great phone call, obviously we know of each other, he knows me as a player, I know him as a manager and it was just more that we were excited to work with each other.
“I think he’s well known in world football for being a fantastic manager and the fact that he’s here and like he hopefully we can do really good things under him.
“Played with Dom Solanke at Liverpool, where obviously he wasn’t there for long, think we signed the same window and I think it maybe only stayed a year or two, but I know Dom from then, played golf a couple of times with James Maddison on holiday. We kind of go to similar places and so I’ve played with him a few times so I know Madders.
“But other than that I’ve not had much obviously played against everyone and talked to people after the game and I’ve obviously played against these lads for different teams and things like that and as of today they were all great and very welcoming and that’s what you want as a new player.
“Obviously now I’m a lot more experienced, I’ve got lot of games under my belt and things like that and I think I can use that experience to also hopefully help the younger lads and also the other lads as well.
“I think everyone connected to club just wants to have a successful season and I’m no different to that.
“Hopefully I can play big part in that and play the way that I know I can.
“I can already see day one that everyone’s determined to bring the best level of their game and hopefully then that can produce special things for us this season.
“Hopefully I can make as many memories in a number three shirt as I did in 26.”

Michael Dawson: “As your old team mate and captain, I’m proud that I can welcome you to Spurs.”
Andy Robertson: “Dawson and Tom Huddleston and Jake Livermore, they all helped me so much when I was a young Scottish player coming down south and they really helped me settle into life at Hull and life in the Premier League.
“When we played at Anfield last season against Tottenham, Daws actually came into my box after the game to see my family and to see me and we had a great catch-up.
“He ended up being in there for about half an hour and then obviously we both can talk so we were just catching up and then obviously I didn’t know he was doing my announcement video but to then when I got it sent and I knew what was happening then it was a good touch because he’s a guy that means a lot to me and my career.
“Somebody that helped massively to get me to the point that I’m at now. I’ve got a lot to owe DOS and a lot of the experienced lads at Hull so it was nice that we kind of went full circle.”
