Ambitious Northern League side target two promotions in the next five seasons

The chairman of Northern League Division One side Shildon has outlined ambitious plans to secure two promotions within the next five seasons.

The Railwaymen’s chairman David Dent recently revealed he wants to achieve the same as what former league opponents Morpeth Town and South Shields have done.

Shildon have reportedly had a number of off-field issues, though have fought on and even built a nice new 200 seat stand received the £57,000 cash from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund to replace the 70-year-old wooden stand, with crowds on the the rise.

In recent seasons, they’ve finished 6th, 3rd and 4th, as well as winning the Northern League Division One title in the 2015/16 season, though only Bishop Auckland applied for promotion to Step 4 and would have needed to finish in the top three to achieve this.

Chairmen Dent said as quoted by Chronicle Live: “It has taken a couple of years to get the club to where we wanted it to be.

“We have a business plan that works over five years and we are targeting two promotions in five years as part of that plan.

“We are working hard behind the scenes and we have a fantastic headline sponsor in Livin, who not only support us financially, but they also help us engage with the local community.

“We feel we are ready for that next step.”

He continued: “We want to be one of those three clubs that gets promoted this season and there will never be a better opportunity.

“We started our player recruitment after Christmas last season, and we have a young, hungry squad.

“The manager (Daniel Moore) has given himself a chance to focus on the managerial side of his work now that he has ended his playing career and that will help him massively.

“Things are coming together on and off the field and we feel we are in a better position to move this club forward now.”
