Alexander Isak gives first interview on Liverpool move as Newcastle release 37 word statement

Alexander Isak gives his first interview on Liverpool move as Newcastle release a 37 word statement on his departure from the club.

A few weeks back, Newcastle United were quick to hit back as Alexander Isak claims in his statement that the club ‘broke promises’. See more on that HERE.

Alexander Isak expressed pride in his PFA Team of the Season recognition but skipped the ceremony, saying that broken promises from Newcastle United that eroded trust, making a change necessary for all parties.

Finally, on Deadline Day, the transfer saga came to an end, with Liverpool signing the 25 year old for a British record transfer fee of £125m.

The Sweden international had a medical on Monday (1st September) before signing a six-year contract, and the deal takes Liverpool’s summer spending to about £416.2m, without add-on fees.

Newcastle sources claim the deal could be worth as much as £130m with add-ons.

Alan Shearer branded Alexander Isak ‘nonsensical’ and told him to sack his agent due to the ‘f****** mess’ he got into. See more on that HERE.

WHAT ISAK SAID ON JOINING LIVERPOOL:

Isak: I feel amazing. It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to.

Interviewer: How does it feel that it is now it’s done, you’re a Liverpool player, when you look down, you see the Liverbird on your jersey, how does that make you feel?

Isak: It’s mixed emotions, some relief, but a lot of pride, happiness and just happy it’s done and that can get back to work and looking forward to seeing the teammates and the fans and just getting back out there.

Interviewer: Why was it Liverpool for you? Why were Liverpool the club you wanted to join?

Isak: I think it’s a mixture of what the club is building, but what they’re building on top of what the club already is and the history of the club. So I think just me getting the chance to be a part of this and uh I want to create history, I want to win trophies. That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me, feel like this is a perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to next level and help the team as well.

Interviewer: Was that one of the motivating factors for you that you feel by coming to Liverpool you can improve as a player too?

Isak: Yeah, for sure. I feel like this is the next step for me in my career and I’m super happy that I’ve been given this chance and very motivated to do something well with it.

Interviewer: I think you said a couple of answers ago, but for you now is it about looking forward and getting back to getting on with your football?

Isak: Yeah, it’s been a long summer, but just looking forward and not looking in the past and just delighted that it’s done now and that I can get back to doing what I love the most. Yeah, really looking forward to it.

Interviewer: You’ve played at Anfield twice. You’ve scored at Anfield twice. How was it playing there as an opponent?

Isak: It’s very difficult. I’ve had a little bit of success here, but not as a team. think we lost both games. So it’s a very difficult place to come to and to win, which I’ve felt and the atmosphere is something extraordinary. So yeah, I’m excited to be a part of that. You have had some success against Liverpool as a player.

Interviewer: What was it like facing Liverpool as an opponent, coming up against like van Dijk, Konate and the others? What was that like? What kind of challenge was that?

Isak: Oh, it’s very challenging, of course. We’re talking about some of the best defenders in the world. So it’s a big challenge, but personally, I love those type of challenges. I love to come up against the best and test myself. So I’ve always loved playing against Liverpool and I’m hoping it’s going to be better playing for Liverpool.

Interviewer: I was just going to say to play at Anfield now in the red as a Liverpool player, how exciting is that prospect?

Isak: It’s so exciting. think it’s something you can’t even… it’s difficult to put in words. I think you have to experience it and then explain. I think we all know what Liverpool is about and the fans, what they’re about as well. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to getting to experience that.

Interviewer: You said earlier you felt by coming to Liverpool you could improve as a player, but what qualities do you want to add to this team.

Isak: Everything. I think I have a lot to give. I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker, but I always want to give as much as possible to the team. Mainly goals, but much more than that as well. So, yeah, everything.

Interviewer: In terms of that, how much are you looking forward to joining the attack? That includes the likes of Mo Salah, Gakpo, Hugo Ekitike, Wirtz, the rest. You’ll get some chances in that team.

Isak: Yeah, I’m looking forward to that. You’re mentioning some world-class players there. They’ve done well when I’ve played on the other side. It’s going to be nice to be on the same team, hoping I can bring my qualities and add to the team. Yeah, just want to have a great season.

Interviewer: Once we’re done here today and the deal’s finalised, you’re away with Sweden and presumably a chance to get some minutes. Would you hope to be available and ready for our next game against Burnley after the international break?

Isak: Yeah, of course. I think that’s the ambition. However I’ve had a tricky summer where I haven’t played any games and I’ve had restricted training. So I think that’s one to judge and analyse where I’m at and how much I’m ready to give. But I certainly want to play as soon as possible.

Interviewer: The contract is signed. You are now a Liverpool player. What would you like to achieve over the course of that contract?

Isak: I wanna win everything, simple as that. And that’s the ambition. You’re also taking the number nine jersey here at Liverpool. What does that mean to you?

Interviewer: No, means a lot. um It’s an iconic number. Obviously it comes with responsibility as well, but I’m delighted to have this chance and to get this number and just motivated to start working and hopefully giving back as well. How did it feel to see the name and number on the back of the jersey earlier for the first time?

Isak: It was beautiful, was beautiful. All my family say it was beautiful as well, so we’re happy.

Interviewer: Finally, they have been waiting for this moment. What would you say to Liverpool fans watching this interview?

Isak: Just that I’m so happy that I’m finally here. Can’t wait to get back out there and hopefully we can share some amazing moments together.

He then wrote via Instagram: “I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together.

“Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs. It has been an honour to be part of the journey from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in over 70 years.

“Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.”

NEWCASTLE STATEMENT:

Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee.

The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.

LIVERPOOL STATEMENT:

Liverpool FC have completed the transfer of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Isak joins the Premier League champions as their new No.9 on a long-term contract, which he signed on deadline day after successfully passing a medical.

Soon after finalising his move at the AXA Training Centre, the 25-year-old forward told Liverpoolfc.com: “I feel amazing.

“It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”

Sweden striker Isak established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading attackers during his three seasons with Newcastle.

Having arrived from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022, he scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for the St. James’ Park club.

Isak netted 54 times in 86 Premier League outings for the Magpies, with 23 of those goals coming last season, when he finished second behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.

He is now a teammate of Salah and has set his sights on winning trophies at Anfield.

Isak added: “I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well.

“I want to win everything. Yeah, [as simple as that].”

Isak began his career with AIK in his homeland before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

After a successful loan spell with Dutch side Willem II, he signed for Sociedad in the summer of 2019 and was the competition’s top scorer as they won the 2019-20 Copa del Rey.

To date, he has earned 52 caps for Sweden, scoring 16 goals.

Here’s how fans reacted after Alexander Isak gives first interview on the move to Liverpool as Newcastle release a brutal 37 word statement…

@ToonFanzone: Just watched Isak’s interview there with #LFC and he’s the most miserable bastard I’ve ever seen. Speaks like he literally cannot be arsed, so flat, so boring, he is the biggest cunt and i cannot wait to see him get absolutely fucking clattered. #NUFC

@TaintlessRed: Watched Isak’s 1st interview. Clear he’s determined to win trophies, also the long difficult time he’s had this summer has had an effect on him, not only that he lacks any match fitness but it’s mentally draining. He looked tired and relieved the saga’s over more than anything.

@davidpick1987: Waking up to the Isak interview/Wissa interview and the lack of respect from Isak towards NUFC as a whole and the fans/players/staff that help make him is disgusting. I’d happily erase his name from our history at this stage. Despicable human being.

@RobDonalds38035: Restricted training 😳😳😳. No you refused to train. And refused to go on the Asia Tour. And refused to train with your Team Mates. Your lack of even emotion or even giving one single bit of appreciation to @NUFC or the fans. Just shows. Bit of advice. If you upset @LFC fans or the Team. Then you have messed around with two of the biggest fan bases in the Country. See you soon at St James. Wish you well Isak

@darlo_mags: Sounds like he’s severely depressed. Go back and watch the interview of him joining Newcastle. Completely different person. #nufc

@JakeBurns4: “I’ve had a tricky summer where I’ve not played any games and had restricted training” cos you decided not to train and play YOU FUCKING PRICK.

@MadGeordie3 : Isak interview for Liverpool no mention of Newcastle or any gratitude towards the club or the fans who worshipped him. Watched the Wissa interview joining us who speaks so highly of his time at Brentford & how much he loved Brentford fans & his team mates #NUFC #LFC #BRE

@lfcf41: That Isak interview was boring lol our interviewer always asks a bunch of soft ball questions, we’ll probably get lot more quality content when he does media with Sweden
