Alan Hansen’s family release a statement saying he’s been discharged from hospital after suffering from a serious illness.
Earlier this month, on the 9th of June, the club confirmed that he was being treated in hospital, but now the 68-year-old is recovering at home.
Alan Hansen made 620 appearances for Liverpool during a 14-year career at Anfield, with the ex-Scotland international winning eight First Division titles, three European Cups and two FA Cups before moving into punditry and was on BBC Match of the Day for over 20 years.
The statement reads: “Alan has been discharged from hospital today to continue his recovery at home.
“Alan, Janet, Adam, Lucy and family would like to thank everybody for their wonderful messages of love and support. It has been overwhelming and has helped enormously.
“We also hugely appreciate the ongoing respect that has been shown for our privacy as Alan continues his recovery.
“Thank you.”

Graeme Souness gave a positive update on Hansen’s ‘serious illness’ after speaking with him on the phone at last weekend.
During an appearance on the White and Jordan show, Jim White shared some positive updates from Souness.
Souness says he recently had a phone conversation with Hansen, and said that his close friend was doing well in recovery.
Souness said: “Under the weather is a bit of an understatement.
“I spoke to him yesterday, and he sounded fabulous, so I hope he’s on the way to a full recovery.
“He’s definitely on the way back because he did nothing but take the mick out of me, so he’s definitely on the way back.”
He added: “I was speaking to his son [Adam] and his Janet his wife, and I’d been phoning his [Hansen’s] phone number.
“I get on the train yesterday and I’m looking for my seat, and my phone rang and I could see it was Big Al.
“I’m thinking, ‘Oh. I don’t want to answer that,’ so I sat down and then I got the courage to phone back and he answered the phone.
“He’s been in a difficult place, but the way he sounded yesterday, he’s back, and I hope I’m right.”

Gary Lineker gave an emotional tribute to his former Match of the Day co-host Alan Hansen, while doing the Euros coverage.
He said: “Okay, before we move on, its been a tough week for everyone associated with Match of the Day. The news that Alan Hanson was seriously ill in hospital shocked us all. Didn’t it, Alan?
Alan Shearer replied: “Oh, absolutely. I mean, we all were great friends with al. We know his character. We know he’s a fighter. We know how tough he is. So were thinking of you, big man. And we’re with you. And we’re hoping. We’re praying for you.”
Gary added: “Yeah, certainly are everyone at master day sends love and thoughts to Janet, Lucy and Adam and the grandchildren. And to use an analogy of Alan’s favourite pastime golf, he might be three down with four to play. But if anyone can come back from it, it’s Alan. I’ve never known a more competitive person in my life. We’re all with you.”
“The best footballing centre half, ever!”

Those on ITV also sent their support. Mark Pougatch said: “And with Scotland playing tonight, we want to send our best wishes to Alan Hanson, one of Scotland’s most decorated players who was taken ill this week. Graeme, a great friend of yours club and country as well. What would you like to say about Alan?”
Graeme replied: “Listen, I had the pleasure of playing with him. He was an absolute dream for a midfield player. You know, he passed the ball at the right weight, at the right time, the right angle. Just a super football player. I believe the best footballing centre half ever. And I know that’s some statement, but I really believe that I’ve seen it close hand, close up. He was a real quality performer.
“And as a human being, you know, when people are in trouble with illness, people say they were great guys or they were a great guy. I’m telling you he was a great guy. He’s a strange breed, because I think you have to search a long, long way to find anyone to say a bad word about him that takes some doing and he’s chatting. His banter was top class. He was just a pleasure to be around and he’s in the fight of his life right now. We should all say a little prayer for him.”
Mark added: “Absolutely, we send our very best wishes to Alan and to his family.”
