Alan Browne responds after getting in incident with fan at Preston fixture

Alan Browne responds via social media after getting in an incident with fan at a recent Preston fixture which has got people talking.

The 26 year old Irishman had a run-in with his own club’s supporters at Huddersfield Town last Tuesday night, and he has since tried to clarify his position on the situation.

Frankie McAvoy’s side continued a disappointing start to the season, losing 1-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium, with Sepp van den Berg’s own goal keeping the Lilywhites bottom of the table after three straight defeats.

Preston manage to get back to winning ways at the weekend just gone, picking up a 1-0 win against Peterborough United to take them up to 20th in the Championship.

For some though, one incident still on people’s minds was the Tuesday defeat, and the footballer has now spoke about it.

Tensions was high at Huddersfield, with the captain left angry North End fans at the final whistle, and appeared to gesticulate towards one particular supporter.

Some feel that this wasn’t suitable for the Preston captain, and believe he owes the fanbase an apology for allegedly telling one to ‘f*ck off’ along with other superlatives when getting a chorus of boos.

Instantly, fans on forums were slating him, calling him the worst captain the club has ever had.

Browne wasn’t part of the team that won against Peterborough, having been forced to isolate, though after applauding the result on Twitter, the incident at Huddersfield came up once again.

Browne replied to one Twitter user trying to get him to say sorry, stating he wouldn’t apologise to one specific fan who aggravated him.

The midfielder added that he applauded the rest of the fans at the time so no apology is necessary.

DeepdaleDigest say: “For our money, it wasn’t the greatest look in the heat of the moment, but it really is better to move on now.

“Fans regularly give stick to players but seemingly can’t take a bit back.

“It would be advisable for North End players to avoid similar situation, but this was a terrible defeat and a dismal night for the club.

“Rather than hold this all against Browne moving forward, let’s try to put it in the past and move on, with Browne hopefully having a big role to play this season.”

As Alan Browne responds after getting in an incident with the fan at a recent Preston fixture, Twitter users gave their reaction…

@sambradshaw800: I don’t understand how players can kick off. 20k a week and they can’t even put. A shift in and beat Huddersfield town. Fans take half a day of work to travel to the game, get back at midnight and up the next morning for work and we get beat again. Frustration understandable

@davegrin68: Love that!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 You can shout & scream & swear & call a player all you want because you paid for your ticket…..he turns round & tells you to “do one”….he can’t do that he can’t do this…..GROW UP!!!

@TomPne77: Heat of the moment…move on. Browne will be as frustrated as the fans were. Hopefully that result boosts us now…and we kick on. Hopefully EVERYONE returns soon and we can add one or two players and kick on.

@ZakGoulders: Legend. Good on you for not being a yes ma

@AnthonyCryer1: Alan Browne gobshite giving fans stick for booing, cunts on about 17k a week and played a stinker think the fans have the right to boo after paying hard earned money

@aidan_pne: From that moment I always said I dont blame you and you didnt need to apologise, fair play Browney head up

@Jake37453965: Get em told

@mickrobswan: Ignore the numbskull.

@alexhendrick01: well in alan fella

@GeorgeHodkinso5: A minority Alan.

@dylan_withnell: Sticking to your guns like, Hope your rest gets you back to top form. Gonna need it

@darrenlynch67: Fair play Alan. Football fans epitomise wokism currently. #OnceARebelAlwaysARebel

@Lordalty: If I had to apologise to everyone I told to fuck off I’d have no time to tell those that need it to fuck off. He’s done nowt wrong, just a player full of emotions after a game getting abuse and defending himself because he has a sense of self worth.

@james1880_: Fucking have em Alan lad

@_JamesVickers: Proper weird bunch our fans. Browne has been nothing but class over the last few years off the pitch yet there’s a witch hunt cos he told some lad to fuck off.

@cottam_pne: my captain 💙

@AdamMasefield: Fair play to him

@_abijayne: Ok in all honesty if you’ve been playing like wank and you have a go at fans for voicing that while on whatever kind of wage per week then I’m a bit gobsmacked that this is the response. Grow a pair. Fans are entitled to opinions.
