AFC Fylde appoint ex-Derby, Mansfield, Oxford, Macclesfield, Torquay, Carlisle player as new manager

AFC Fylde appoint ex-Derby, Mansfield, Oxford, Macclesfield, Torquay, Carlisle player Adam Murray as their new manager.

The club had interim boss Andy Taylor in charge in recent weeks following the departure of James Rowe, with the latter resigning after being charged with sexual assault.

AFC Fylde currently sit 8th in the National League North table, taking a total of 27 points from 15 games played. But have quite a few games in hands over others and are 10 points behind the leaders.

CLUB STATEMENT:

AFC Fylde is thrilled to announce the appointment of Adam Murray as the new First-Team Head Coach.

Adam, a former professional footballer who amassed over 500 appearances in a 17-year playing career, has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal until June 2025 at Mill Farm.

After years of plying his trade in the Premier League & Football League for Derby County, Oxford United, Luton Town and Mansfield, Adam took on the role of Assistant Manager at Mansfield Town whilst still a player and later took the reins as Caretaker Manager in November 2014.

The 41-year-old has previous experience in the National League North, where he took over at Boston United following his time at Mansfield before accepting the role of Assistant Manager at Guiseley a couple of seasons later.

Coaching roles at Burton Albion, West Brom and Port vale led Adam to Barnsley, where he was thrust into the role of U18s Manager before stepping up to assist with First Team duties just one year later.

After assisting first-team matters, he became Caretaker Manager at Oakwell following Daniel Stendel’s exit in 2019 and again after Gerhard Struber left in 2020.

The appointment of Valerian Ismael at Barnsley saw Murray strike up a strong partnership with the Frenchman, who he later followed to West Brom in July 2021. A brief spell at Port Vale then allowed Murray to assist Ismael once again, this time at Turkish Super Lig champions Besiktas.

Following his recent departure from the Turkish giants, Adam now joins the Coasters and will take charge of the side for the first time against Gillingham FC in the FA Cup First Round Replay on Tuesday, 15 November.

Following his arrival, Adam expressed his delight and said: “I’m delighted to be here at AFC Fylde and working with a really good group of players.

“It’s a great challenge for myself and one that I am looking forward to.”

Executive Vice Chairman Phil Humphreys added: “We are extremely pleased to have secured Adam as our First-Team Head Coach.

“His reputation, built on solid foundations, precedes him, and there is no doubt that we’ve made an appointment that is a perfect match for the Club and for Adam.

“To his credit, he’s emerged as our first choice following a professional and robust recruitment process that saw more than 100 applicants for the role.

“I know that Adam will receive a big welcome from everyone connected with the Club.

“We’d also like to express our sincere thanks to Andy Taylor, who has been the Interim First-Team Manager since September. He will now assume the role of Assistant First-Team Coach.”
