A second Leyton Orient player tests positive for Coronavirus, the League Two side have confirmed in a statement on Monday night.

The unnamed star was placed into self-isolation after showing symptoms after the first-team squad entered a further seven days of self-isolation.

The statement read: “The Club can confirm that a second Leyton Orient first team player has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus today.

Following on from Sunday’s news that a first-team player had tested positive for the virus, communication with players and staff has been the club’s priority.

Upon confirmation that a player was showing symptoms of Covid-19, a test was taken to determine the status of said player.

The players and staff have continued to follow government guidance throughout the process, and a self-isolation period has been observed from all who had been in contact.

The player in question is only showing mild symptoms of the virus and is on the road to recovery, however will continue to follow government guidelines and self-isolate.

The Club would like to ask supporters to continue to follow government advice on Covid-19, and do your bit to help stop the spread of the virus. This includes distancing safety measures as well as the use of protective face masks. Due to the concern on Covid-19, there are even see through masks for lip reading being manufactured, this allows for the safe communication to deaf people.

“It is obviously a huge concern of everyone’s that a case like this has been reported, and of course it is a worry that it has impacted one of our players and our club directly,” said head coach Ross Embleton in a club statement.

“The positive for us is that the symptoms have not got any worse and the player in question is improving every day.

“It is vital that we continue to follow the guidelines and isolate for another week in order to give the virus the time to pass.”

Portsmouth’s James Bolton, Andy Cannon, Sean Raggett and Haji Mnoga have tested positive for coronavirus it was revealed a few days ago along with other notable members of the football world such as Marouane Fellaini, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mikel Arteta, Paulo Dybala and Paolo Maldini.

“Football is not immune from this virus and I can assure you that it only really hits home when those that you know contract it,” Portsmouth chief executive Mark Catlin said.
