8th tier club sign ex-Man City, Hibs, Rangers, Preston, Oxford, Reading, Morecambe player

8th tier club Avro FC sign ex-Man City, Hibs, Rangers, Preston, Oxford, Reading, Morecambe player Brandon Barker this week.

He played 62 minutes of Avro’s 1-0 win away at Hanley Town on Saturday afternoon, the result taking them to 12th in the Northern Premier League – West Division table with 45 points from 31 games played, 7 points from the playoffs.

The 28 year old is looking to enjoying his football again after having a tough time of it in recent years with injuries.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Avro have announced a trio of exciting attacking signings as the season enters the finishing straight.

Former Manchester City and Rangers winger Brandon Barker was once labelled ‘the toughest opponent I have ever faced’ by Liverpool and England full back Trent Alexander-Arnold, and has more recently spent time in Cyprus with Omonia Nicosia before returning to the north west with Morecambe.

Malakai McKenzie also has international experience with Málaga City and has most recently been seen at Chorley and Northwich Victoria, whilst talented young wide man Sheriff Njie has won a host of admirers with a series of dazzling displays for North West Counties side Droylsden FC during the current campaign.

Joint manager David Birch had this to say about the new recruits:

‘I think we have been competitive in every single game this season, and it has been hugely frustrating that we have have not picked up as many points as we would have liked to. These three signings are going to give us a massive boost in the attacking and wide areas.

‘Brandon needs no introduction – he has done it at the highest level and I can tell you that from what I have seen in training, he has lost none of his ability. He just wants to get back to enjoying football and we believe that our club is the perfect place for him to do that.

‘We have had our eye on both Malakai and Sheriff for quite a while now, and we are delighted that both of them have totally bought into what we are trying to build here. We are so excited to see what they can offer us in an Avro shirt. It’s great to see when youngsters back themselves and take a step up to the next level, and hopefully they both have strong starts and show us what they are capable of.’

The club would like to thank Droylsden FC for their cooperation in allowing Sheriff to join us.
