This afternoon, the draw for the group stage of the EFL Trophy for the new season has been made although the groups isn’t entirely complete yet.
48 EFL clubs have been placed into pre-determined groups but the invited under 21 sides won’t be drawn until Friday 12th July live on talkSPORT on the Jim White Show at 12.30pm.
Reports elsewhere state: “The four sides will play each other once with the top two in each group advancing to the knockout stages.
“The staging of each group game will be decided by a draw, though games against the U21 sides will be home games for the EFL clubs.”
Clubs will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. In the event of a drawn game (after 90 minutes), a penalty shootout will be held with the winning team earning an additional point.
