11th tier club Wombwell Main say they have only played two home games all season and have to play 13 games in five weeks.
The said they have 13 games to go but the FA won’t budge beyond mid-May for the extension. Demands on their subs-paying players, who also play Sundays, is beyond ridiculous and they’re struggling.
Manager Terry Simon explains the effects of the wettest 18 months on record, saying: “It could cost us £4,000 in the next month to finish the season with no income coming back in.”
It’s said in a clip uploaded to the club’s Twitter: “We’re down to four weeks left of the season and we’ve got half a season to fit in, 13 games.
“I think Paul just mentioned that there’s a possibility that we’re going to get a league extension.
“All them games that we’ve got to play, you want to get games on here.
“If we look at hiring another venue, the number of games we’ve got to play at reserves have got to play.
“That’s regardless of Saturdays and under 16s.
“It would cost club £4,000.
“Well, because there’s three referees, as in referee and two assistants.
“£110 for our games alright. So we’ve got 10 games.
“So straight away you’re talking £100 there, more, we’ve got, if it were 10 games, £1,100, reserves a one game, so we’ll say £40. They’ve half a dozen game, so you’re talking £300.
“But not only that, then there’s a higher up pitch, which is another probably £100 minimum if you gain a 4G.
“So that’s another. Another £1,100, for us, £500.
“So you’re talking £4,000 and then the bar hasn’t made any money for five months.
“So we go into committee and say we want £4,000 to get season finished, for fixtures.
“A committee, rightly so we’re going to say, well, yeah, you know, we’ll do that.
“We’ll do revenue of at bar.
“But then we turn around and say, oh no, we want £4,000 to play, but we’re going to have to play all games away, so we’ll have no opposition coming back.
“And some of our lads who live at other site, you know, some lads in Swinton, Barnsley, they’re not going to come back to club.
“So we want £4,000 to fulfil fixtures, but we’re not going to get.
” We’re not going to put out back at club.
“It’s not, financially, it doesn’t make any sense at all.
” And I’ve said it a few times, we’re not in it for financial gain, but we can’t run it at a loss.
“We can’t have last month at season it costing us £1,000 a week. We can’t do that. We can’t possibly do it.”
They currently sit 9th with 18 points from 13 games played.
“It could cost us £4,000 in the next month to finish the season with no income coming back in.”

This is how fans reacted online as the 11th tier club reveal they have only played two home games all season and have to play 13 games in five weeks…
@chet_45: @savegrassroots have you seen this at all, clubs simply can’t afford it. Use August and September to play Saturday’s and Tuesday’s whilst the weather is decent. £200 for a 3g is ridiculous at the best of times, never mind when you have your own pitch to play on.
@WelfareFc: @WombwellMain your welcome to come use our pitch when it’s available
@footballsheff: Wow 😳 Into April and only been able to play 2 home games all season.
@antclare78: All that money in the top. Divisions and this is what grass roots guys are having to deal with…. Games gone. Football is for everyone not just the elite.
@SelstonFC: 🗣 | While we’ve played more than two home games this season, financially, we’ve been hit hard this season with the lack of home games for all of our teams. Dreadful season for many many teams with grass pitches.. #SFC
@sal_hurst: That’s shocking!
