Wolves net two stunners in injury time to beat Tottenham during Premier League ‘corrupt’ chant

Wolves net two remarkable stunners in injury time to come from behind and beat Tottenham during the Premier League ‘corrupt’ chant.

Spurs were ahead on 3 minutes, the perfect start as their first real attack ended with a superb low pass from Pedro Porro into a spot in the six-yard box from which Brennan Johnson couldn’t miss.

It was a good reaction from Wolves, but they spent much of the game failing to make the most of their chances, struggling with their finishing.

Apart from the dramatic late finish, the game in truth lacked any decent quality from both sides at the top end of the pitch in the final third, not helped that Spurs were without Maddison and Wolves unable to play the injured Neto.

Poor set piece quality from Wolves let Spurs off, and Giovani Lo Celso almost sealed the win, teeing up on the edge of the box after a break was checked, but his shot towards the top corner just about got tipped over by Jose Sa.

Then on 91 minutes, Wolves found a way through, and what a goal it was too. Pablo Sarabia gathered Matheus Cunha’s ball into the box, flick it up and then smashing it on the volley past Guglielmo Vicario.

6 minutes were added on, and Molineux went into delirium, Wolves spent around 80 minutes messing up their chances, but never gave up, and grabbed their second goal of the game on 97 minutes.

Pablo Sarabia, involved again, set up a neat pass into the box for Mario Lemina, who netted into the far side.

Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina speaking to TNT Sports: “It is an amazing feeling. We’ve been pushing so hard. We deserve this game; we had the best tactic to play against them and we showed it today. I scored the winner and I’m really happy.

“I’m feeling at my best. I’m not getting injured; the fans have supported me. I really love them and the club. I’ve tried to give back to them. We’ve been pushing hard, pressing, pressing. The subs did amazing; a good pass from [Matheus] Cunha and what a finish by [Pablo Sarabia].

“We need to think about the international break and the next game but we are going to enjoy this.”

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Obviously it is disappointing, the goals going in so late and we worked hard up until that point.

“We ran out of legs at the end but credit to Wolves they came at us and scored a couple of good goals.

“I cannot question the effort and the commitment. In the first-half we scored a good goal and then played a bit conservatively.

“I did not think we were as positive as we could be, the second-half was a bit better but there is a lot of players having their first start and we were never going to get the same fluency.”

Gary O’Neil said: “I was very proud of the group anyway – just the performance and the understanding of what we were trying to do. We started very slowly but the reaction was very good.

“If that game had finished 1-0 to Tottenham it would have been a bit of a hard-luck story, but I still would have been very proud.

“I spoke to the boys at half-time, saying the scoreline was irrelevant – we were the better side. Don’t let the scoreline dictate how you feel – we’re on top.

“It was probably the most proud of a group that I’ve coached today, to produce what they produced against a top side. It’s easy for me to put stuff on the tactics board but for us to find the solutions is a credit to the group.”
