Football fans across the country woke up this morning to find out that Wayne Rooney scored from beyond the half way line for DC United yesterday.
The former England and Manchester United legend manage to picked up the ball from his team-mate Russell Canouse, after a mix-up between Orlando’s Sacha Kljestan and Robin Jansson.
On the 10th minute, from 70 yards out, Rooney from way out into his own half lobbed the ball over the Orlando keeper Brian Rowe who was just 10 yards out of his goal.
It ended up being the only goal of the game to give DC United the win.

He spoke of it after the game, he said: “It’s always nice, to score goals like the goal this evening. It’s something that I practise so many times, different managers and players say why are you practising this, you won’t score from this position. On nights like tonight, that’s why I do practise them, it was a good strike and an important goal for us.”
Rooney has scored from the half way line for every club he’s played at.
He did so in 2017 for Everton, picking up Joe Hart’s clearance only to smash it over his head and into the net as he bagged a hat-trick against West Ham.

Three years before that, he did it again, this time for Manchester United, also against the Hammers.
