Video footage emerges of the moment Grimsby fans got in the faces of Man Utd players

Video footage emerges of the moment Grimsby fans ran onto the pitch and got in the faces of several Man Utd players.

A highly emotional night for all involved, Man Utd came back from 2-0 down to take the game to penalties, but ended up losing a dramatic penalty shootout, with Grimsby winning 12-11.

Grimsby fans flooded the pitch in celebration, but while most Manchester United players had quickly made their way off the pitch, Bruno Fernandes went over to support and protect Bryan Mbeumo who had saw his spot kick come back off the woodwork.

Man Utd keeper Andre Onana was still on the pitch, facing the noise from Grimsby fans before quickly making his way off…

Chris Dawkes said in his report for ITV: Well what an incredible night down here at Blundell Park. Grimsby Town have pulled off the unthinkable. And in years to come, these fans can say “I was there”.

One fan, with a slight voice break, says in the video report, seen below: In 15 years of supporting this club I have never ever seen anything quite like it. This team, this manager, just look at what he means to the fans. This might not mean much to some people but to people like me, this is so much.”

When one fan is asked what it meant to him, he replied: “Everything, everything. Come here with Dad. Me Dad’s been waiting absolutely years for us to play for Manchester United and I’m watching it with him. He’s waited how many years now has it?”

The reporter replies: “A long time!”

After the game, the Third Round draw of the Carabao Cup was made, with Grimsby finding out that they would travelled to Sheffield Wednesday.

Here’s how fans reacted amid video footage emerges of the moment Grimsby fans got in the faces of Man Utd players…

@aroundgroundsss: Such strange behaviour when your team just beat Manchester United and your first thought is to go and goad there players. Celebrate with your friends and family #GTFC #MUFC #EFLCup

@RaffaRants: I don’t agree with players getting in his face, we can all banter but shouting in his face, in a pitch invasion isn’t on

@LukeBullen10: Sign of a good captain there. Mbeumo should keep his head high not too blame for that current mess.

@ColinBradbury3: Stewards totally unprepared. One eventually appeared and then let the fans get between him and the United players. Grimsby deserve all the plaudits but they have to take responsibility for totally failing to protect the players there. That could have got really nasty

@tattoo_jak: Getting in the face of players like that – you’re scumbags.

@joshwortho: Wankers, then if the players do owt back they’re in trouble

@bykylegrondin: It really feels like Bruno Fernandes gets a lot of schtick for almost no reason. He can be annoying on the field, but he’s a good leader who clearly cares.

@th_av25: Yeah that’s abit strange that fair play

@gilly723: Fully grown men shouting in his face. “Guess what i did yesterday lads” ffs

@AJLimb91: Wonder how many of these people giving those United players grief will be at Saturdays game against Bristol Rovers. My guess is not many.

@Dmmanz_: Again I don’t get why fans do this. Go celebrate with your team and players

@JamieBluebird: Will never understand this. Team has just won a mammoth tie against one of the big premier league clubs and first thing you want to do is go on and shove a camera in the face of the opposition players. Weird

@MGoddard2001: Absolute snowflakes in the comments not liking this. I bloody love it 😂 It’s banter end of the day and it’s football. Let them rub the salt in those united wounds.

@samcalders7: Fair play to them it’s a great result but just no need for them to go up to our players and do that. Go and celebrate with your own players you freaks 🫠

@JM1876x: A thought for Mbuemo, takes a pen, hits the bar then thousands of Grimsby fans are running at him with inflatable fish hahahahaha.

@ManUnitedMedia: Some absolute scumbags live in this country. You’ve just had the biggest win in your history, and all you can think to do is abuse an opposition player.

@JakeAGriff: Grimsby fans should be ashamed of themselves. So poor this. Proper captain stuff from Bruno, though. Nice to see. Hopefully people look after Mbuemo (and Cunha) extra carefully over the next few days.

@JAMES77458423: Only football can make people go mental like this. The greatest thing in the whole world.

@atm1988: Imagine after the biggest result in your clubs history, your first thought is to go and get in the face of a player who just missed a penalty and get your phone out to record him.

@elcapitanpopo: Grown man doing this. They really have no shame

@FortuneFpl: Enjoy your win. It was well deserved. Amazing night for Grimsby. But to get in a players face and do this is disgusting. Have some shame.

@otis_14: Don’t rate shit like this at all, man think this is cool or hilarious?
