Video emerges of Serbian fan trying to get into the England end – it doesn’t end well for him

A video emerges of a Serbian fan trying to get into the England end during the World Cup qualifier – and it doesn’t end well for him.

DavoBirmingham recorded the moment an acrobatic fan was chased by security stewards and wrestled to ground before being ejected out of the ground, with the England fans mocking the culprit while watching on.

talkSPORT‘s Jim Proudfoot said: “A Serbian supporter was trying to make his way down, he climbed over the red railings and was slowly making his way towards the England fans.

“He’s now been apprehended and won’t be watching anymore of the game.

“He got his hands on an England shirt and ripped it in front of the England supporters.”

Co-commentator Stuart Pearce added: “One of the Serbian supporters has done a one man attack, but luckily for the England fans he’s not got into the England end.”

Riot police were also forced to intervene in the crowd in a separate incident which occurred in the home section of the Belgrade stadium, quite a distance away from where the visiting fans were.

Serbian fans also clashed among themselves, prompting riot police intervention, though order was restored peacefully.

The home crowd turned on their manager, Dragan Stojkovic, criticising his tactics. This came after tensions before the game amid protests and a rejected venue change by the Serbian Football Association.

ITV commentator Sam Matterface said: “There is a stream of riot police running into the home section of the crowd.” He further reported that a child had to be lifted out as authorities rushed to the scene, although TV footage did not capture the incident.

Pitchside reporter Gabriel Clarke explained that the incident was due to political disagreements: “The disturbance happened in the main stand and it was rather unnerving for a few minutes.

“A few Serbians ran across that stand, there were families involved as well. Some children had to be moved on.

“It was Serbian fans arguing between themselves. It was politically charged, pro and anti-government.

“The police have moved in and calmed the situation.”

Political tensions between the home fans were also reported around the 64th minute, with children removed from the stands as riot police were called in to stop the trouble from escalating.

Proudfoot added: “There are political undertones to the chanting, complaints about the president of Serbia, there were political protests over here yesterday. When we arrived at the airport we were diverted away from those protests so there’s clearly a lot of unrest.

“There’s a skirmish at the bottom of the home crowd. The riot police are going in very quickly. Serbians very disaffected by this performance are calling for the head of the manager.”

The game itself saw England shine, Harry Kane opened the scoring with a header, followed by Noni Madueke’s solo goal.

Play was paused due to Serbia fans shining lasers at Ezri Konsa, who later scored the third goal. Serbia’s captain Nikola Milenkovic was also sent off with 18 minutes remaining. Marc Guehi scored from the resulting free-kick, and Marcus Rashford sealed the 5-0 win with a penalty.

England manager Thomas Tuchel, speaking to ITV Sport: “I’m more than happy for the team and staff. We had an excellent week from start to finish. We’ve just proved what I’ve seen every day in this camp and this makes me very happy.

“We played with a lot of intensity, a lot of work in teamwork and we showed our quality. We kept Serbia to no shots on target and you have to put in a lot of work to do that, a lot of intensity and the invisible work that you do not get praise for. It is good to watch.

“I discovered Elliot [Anderson] with his performances for Nottingham. He played well against Andorra, he deserved to play again and made another fantastic performance.

“Every game is different. We had a meeting in the beginning of the week. We’ve only had three weeks of training and that’s normally half a pre-season. It takes time and in between there are weeks of pause. The players did excellent. The credit goes to them, they did amazing – that’s the bar.”

England captain Harry Kane, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “I spoke a lot yesterday about how we wanted to play – being on the front foot and being aggressive, and I think we showed our level today. Even in the other games, we did well, but we didn’t reach top form.

“We scored five and made it look comfortable. We can be proud of ourselves. It has been a great camp and we are in a great position.

“They found it difficult to play. Whenever they did break, we recovered quickly. Overall, we can be pleased with the whole week and we will take this into the next camp. The energy has been higher and the level has been higher.

“We felt we had a good performance a few days ago. I know it wasn’t the performance that everyone was excited about, but we did what we had to.

“Serbia are a good team, and we made them look average tonight.”

England defender Ezri Konsa, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “Excellent night. Since I was a kid, you always dream about these moments.

“For it to finally happen with my whole family watching back home. It will be a moment I will never forget. To finally score tonight was an amazing moment.

“I think it is everyone’s dream no matter where you play. It is everyone’s dream to score for their country.

“We have had a great week in camp, and we showed our levels in training.”

Guehi, speaking to ITV Sport after his first international goal, said: “We have such a good group of players and we’re all working towards one goal.

“I’m just over the moon. It’s a fantastic feeling of working really hard growing up so to score a goal for the country is the best feeling.”

England midfielder Declan Rice, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “Incredible night. We knew it was going to be really tough coming here, but a five-star performance. We took control from the very first minute, and we needed that tonight.”

On what went right: “Everything that we have been working on. The five wins, the first four games people have been wanting to see six and seven goals. It is never going to happen when teams camp 10 men behind the ball. The whole performance tonight from start to finish was top.

“The mentality has been right all week, the attitude has been right. This was the big game this week and this puts us in a good position going forward.”

On Elliot Anderson: “He made it look so easy. He has done what he has been doing at his club for two years. He is a great addition to the squad. We need competition, and we need lads at their best.”

On the World Cup: “You can never take it for granted. These qualifier games can be sticky. Every time you get called up to England it’s the best feeling.

“We go back home now, and we look forward to October. Hopefully, we can wrap it up soon.”

England winger Noni Madueke, speaking to ITV Sport after his first international goal, said: “I’m delighted for the team performance, for the win. It was a really top performance. Thank God I was able to score my first goal, just a top day overall.

“It was a great flick from Morgan [Rogers], as soon as it broke for me I had one thought – to go as fast as I could and go for goal. It was a great feeling, something you work for and dream of when you are a lot younger. For it to come to fruition is a great feeling.”
