Sky Sports accused by viewers of ‘faking the famous Anfield atmosphere’

Sky Sports have been accused by viewers of ‘faking the famous Anfield atmosphere’ as a video emerges from the Merseyside Derby.

Fans watching the broadcast of the Premier League fixture claimed that the audio of Liverpool supporters singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” before kick-off sounded unusually loud and out of sync with the visuals.

This led to widespread speculation that Sky Sports used pre-recorded crowd noise to amplify the atmosphere at Anfield.

Social media posts from viewers highlighted the perceived discrepancy, with some pointing out that the sound didn’t match the crowd’s movements on screen. Others mocked Sky Sports, suggesting it was an attempt to uphold the reputation of Anfield’s famous atmosphere.

Do you agree with what they’re saying? Did you also notice this? Or is it everyone making a big deal out of nothing? We’ll let you be a judge of this…

Twitter users reacted with Sky Sports accused by viewers of ‘faking the famous Anfield atmosphere’…

@AlexCTurk: Have Sky Sports just outed themselves for playing YNWA over the actual crowd to make it sound louder????? 🤣

@Swaz_LFC: There’s multiple mics in the stadium picking up different sounds and they pick and choose what to play like they do in every stadium u daft twat 😂

@Jordski86: As if they play YNWA through the speakers to make it sound like there’s a decent atmosphere on the tele 😂

@AO1865: Was that sky playing a recording of YNWA???

@patdevereux96: Wouldn’t say sky are putting this on. More of a timing thing. But I used to work at Anfield. Their PA plays a live version of YNWA. Sounds fake when you hear it on its own but adds to the sound of the ground when fans are in singing along

@_danny_gates: Wait !! Please tell me I was wrong and there wasn’t sound being played over the “ famous atmosphere “ #anfieldmyth

@AranNicol1994: HAHAHAHAHAHA Sky fucked up the crowd noise and you could hear the Liverpool fans quietly singing and a different part of YNWA being played on a crowd noise machine 😭😭😭😭

@matt_bcfc4: As if Sky sports literally just changed the YNWA sound to make it sound better. Anyone else notice that or just me

@JackEFC95: We’re Sky Sports playing a fucking recording of YNWA hahahahaha

@DMFv2: Did Sky just fuck up and play a track of Anfield “singing” YNWA? 😭😭😭

@Swanny003: Sky sports mucking up the YNWA crowd noise trying to make Anfield sound louder 🤡

@graingerrrrr: Ahahahahha sky fucking up playing you’ll never walk alone to make anfield sound better than it is 😂😂😂😂

@TheBurnleyWay: Not Sky Sports pumping YNWA audio over the crowd 🤣🤣 #LIVEVE

@mags6788: Hahahahahahaha Sky caught out for turning the volume up at Anfield. We all knew it, but wow embarrassing now🤣🤣

@themagic_tophat: They have multiple mics and turn them up and down. As such, you can’t truly gauge atmosphere on the telly. Anfield has a great atmosphere though, incl during YNWA.

@Paul_M__H: We all knew it… they play crowd noise at Anfield but fuck me Sky do it too! 😂😂😂😂😂

@Stuj4z: Anyone who has ever been to Anfield as an away fan knows what it’s like. Biggest myth in football that place

@JonjoMcGov: Were @SkySports playing YNWA over the top of the actual fans singing it or is my Tele fucked?

@PGHaroId: Sky fucking up playing another YNWA audio then 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@bogle_anika: Not sure what sky we’re doing then during YNWA

@R_o_M: People had been joking about them doing this for years. Can’t believe it actually happens 😂 YSB.

The game itself saw Diogo Jota’s goal give Liverpool a 1-0 win over Everton; the derby win takes Reds 12 clear at the top; and James Tarkowski controversially escaped red card for “horrible challenge” on Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot spoke to Sky Sports about the foul on Mac Allister:

“He kept playing, so I assume he’s okay. He’s used to something because he’s from South America. But I think everyone has said something about it so why should I add something to it?

“It’s so obvious it’s not necessary for me to comment. I’d prefer to talk about Diogo’s goal or Curtis Jones’ performance or something else than the red card incident.

“It could have been [a serious injury] but it wasn’t fortunately. And he was lucky about that.”

Everton manager David Moyes told Sky Sports:

“My first thought was it was a brilliant tackle for a derby game and a tackle we might have seen a few years ago.

“But I understand these days we might see things slightly different with follow throughs, etc.

“We might have got a bit lucky – but don’t be putting that with the goal. The goal was a different incident which won Liverpool the game in the end.”

“It’s a clear offside” – David Moyes aggrieved at Liverpool’s winner being allowed to stand
