Oldham fans damage Tranmere coach; separate incident sees kids trampled by police horses

Oldham Athletic have taken to issue a statement after their fans decided to attack and damage the Tranmere Rovers coach after Tuesday’s game.

Charlie Jolley was the Super White Army’s hero after striking in the 90th minute to give his side a valuable three points on the road.

Jolley slotted home after getting on the end of a low cross sent in from substitute Kieron Morris, breaking the hearts of the struggling hosts and sending them to a third straight League Two defeat and move Rovers two points off the playoffs.

Oldham’s best chance of the game came in the second minute when Benny Couto forced Tranmere goalkeeper Ross Doohan into a smart near-post save.

OLDHAM STATEMENT:

Oldham Athletic are extremely disappointed in the behaviour of a small minority of so-called ‘supporters’ who decided to attack and damage the Tranmere Rovers coach after the fixture last night.

The club is working with and giving every support to Greater Manchester Police to help identify those responsible and to ensure they are dealt with in the correct manner going forwards.

We would also like to offer an unreserved apology to Tranmere Rovers Football Club, its players, staff and supporters for the incident that happened and the distress caused. javascript:(function(){return;})()

Nicola Palios, the vice chairman of Rovers, tweeted: “Very disappointing that the windows on @TranmereRovers team coach were smashed this evening. @ANTHONYSTRAVEL don’t deserve that. If anyone saw anything please let us know #TRFC #OAFC

One Tranmere fan gave an account as to what else happened: “Awful policing post match @OfficialOAFC vs @TranmereRovers. @gmpolice forcing Tranmere fans back whilst sending horses right through the middle injuring kids & more #TRFC #SWA @NicolaPalios @markpalios1 @ThisIsTranmere @MattHibbert @ATTTMPod.

“1-when leaving the ground, police blocked off any route that went being the JR Stand, forcing #TRFC fans to exit behind the stand to the playing fields. However, in the corridor to get to these fields, a group of Oldham fans gathered, trying to start fights & blocking the way….

“2: police quickly formed a line between the Oldham fans & #SWA, to buy time for them to clear the Oldham group away. When this was done, TRFC fans were strangely forced back towards the ground, being instructed to go the other way-the blocked off way past the JR Stand…

“3: with fans telling them this & the police wondering why we couldn’t move any further back, because they’d already blocked that way off, the started to squeeze us back more & get physical… the issues then escalated…

“4: after being pushed back, I was suddenly head butted by a horse (1 of 2) that I had no clue was there, walking through the middle, in the opposite direction to where the TRFC fans were being forced. I got dragged away luckily….

“5: unjustly, many fans got trampled over, including a young child-their father of course reacted angrily after the horses left & was told ‘I’d be pissed off too mate’ by the police, other fans were physically pushed, punch, hit by police as they weren’t going a certain way…

“6: TRFC fans were left to be forced back into a small corner to the side of the stand, filled the cars, police vans ect with police getting violent at the only exit point or get trampled on by horses in between.”

Twitter users reacted at reports Oldham fans chose to damage the Tranmere coach while kids were hurt post-match by police horses…

@Doyleyy1998: Enjoy the conference manc cunts

@GDMCFC51: As long as you don’t get @MerseyPolice involved as they turn a blind eye to coaches being damaged!

@liammcg38141653: I saw mo and al looking shifty around said time in the car park.

@MAKtGWB1: cant support any of this sort of nonsense. whats happening to us

@AdamGMillington: Just can’t get my head around GMP’s policy around policing #oafc games this season. Large presences at nothing games, but minimal last night. Trouble at Latics vs #trfc was to be expected by anyone with an ounce of knowledge. When so many left before full-time it’s no surprise.

@hbcjonesy1205: Oldham fans are absolute rats. All absolute mupets who do nothing but use rocks for whatever they can, cant handle a defeat to little old tranmere can they. Vile football club, Abdallah in

@PerpignanFlyer: Horrible Oldham cunts

@AbsolomHaydn: Adding to may experience away at @OfficialOAFC, the team bus gets smashed in #SWA #TRFC

@mattytrfcjamess: Lack of Police was a disgrace, there was about 40 of them chasing a mini bus of Tranmere fans throwing bottles & kicking it

@lk_davies: Hardly any police presence at all and a hostile environment outside the ground. Not nice for kids to witness when they are just going to enjoy a game.

@RichyAlde: Horrible mutants

@SmartyMarty65: Why wasnt the team coach left in a safe stewarded area. Or have the Manc Mutants got no money for that

@bringbackngoo: Not on. By all means our club’s a complete mess but don’t take it out on others. #oafc #LemsagamsOUT

@Deanoyouds: Shocking policing. Around 50/60 Oldham fans came running towards turnstyle attacking young/old and no police to be seen. Eventually when they did turn up starting pushing and shouting at us. Then about 20 fans waiting throwing bricks at cars and no police anywhere to be seen…

@NathanM14002: Police had no clue what to do. Sending us one way then having horses run through us from the way they told us to go.

@ChrisJStott19: Didn’t think anyone could surpass the level of embarrassment to our club our owners have shown but this takes it to another level, shameful behaviour #oafc
