FC United had an occasion to remember as the Northern Premier League club’s European cup journey ends with a win at the San Siro.
The 7th tier outfit had hoped to defend European cup title of the Fenix Trophy final, but unfortunately couldn’t reach that stage this time around and settled on the third place decider.
After winning their group, they managed to reach the semi-finals where they came up against Copenhagen based club BK Skjold, but fell to a 3-2 defeat, played on Wednesday the 8th of June.
FC United of Manchester gave credit to their opponents, saying they ‘played really well, FC had chanced and scored just before the crucial 2nd but it was disallowed, the scoreline looked harsh before a penalty late on reduced the deficit.’
Great to welcome FC United of Manchester to Liverpool John Lennon Airport on Tuesday, as they flew out to Milan to contest the Fenix Cup.
Good luck for the tournament, and thank you for choosing the North West’s Faster, Easier, Friendlier Airport.

So, they turned their attention to the final game, to see who would claim third place at this season’s FENIX Trophy, which FC United won last year.
Less than 24 hours after they played the semi final game, FC United arrived for the early kick off. Fans in the hundreds turning up to support their side.
There was very little to say in terms of chances with it 0-0 going into the break.
35 mins was the allotted time and FC United gave it the best they could while their opposition Brera also struck the bar in the 27 degrees sunshine.
π If you’re wondering about the delay, the teams were allowed into the ground at 1120, everyone else is still waiting outside the gate…..

On 55 minutes, FC United was on target and took a deflection but into the keeper’s midriff. Brera were given a free kick after a soft decision but sent it straight into the wall.
FC United had it in the net but it was ruled offside.
Then in the 65th minute, the 7th tier club went ahead through Van Wyk with a header after the ball bounced up and he was there to nod it into the top corner.
The full time whistle blew and that officially ended FC United’s season, finishing in third place.

Competing in the final, also at the San Siro, was BK Skjold and Prague Raptors, the latter from Czechia and reached last year’s final where they lost 2-0 to FC United.
The Raptors were on the losing side again however as Skjold eased to a 3-0 victory to put more heartache on their opponents.

Here’s what fans said as the Northern Premier League club’s European cup journey ends with a win at the San Siro…
@dan_batemannn: Itβs not every day you can say you watched the team you own play at The San Siro. Hope all the fans who travelled had a great time and hope the players loved every minute of it. ππ»πΎπͺ
@hg1fcum: Quiz question in ten years time – Who were the last English team to play in The San Siro?
@sootysvoice: FT @FCUnitedMcr 1-0 @BreraFC. We finally put one away near the end after it seems like we all had the San Siro nerves in front of goal. Great atmosphere and more importantly Jimmy got on!! ππ
@foreveroufc: been great following this again, shame it weren’t the be for fc united, but im sure if they’re in it next season, they’ll be one of the favourites to win it again
No chance of retaining the Fenix trophy today for FC but that seems like the least of the concerns for the reds out here enjoying themselves massively outnumbering the rest of fans from all the other sides. pic.twitter.com/3VqnFxZC0M

FC United of Manchester, a fan-owned club in the 7th tier of English football, played in Milan’s San Siro today. Potentially the last English club to ever do so
