‘Muppet’ Patrick Bamford leads fans into a chant about Chris Wilder after Leeds win promotion back to the Premier League on Monday.

The chant, “Wilder is a w*nker,” stemmed from a longstanding rivalry, fuelled by Wilder’s 2019 comments calling Bamford and other Leeds players “muppets” after Sheffield United’s promotion.

Leeds’ 6-0 win over Stoke City and Burnley’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United confirmed Leeds’ return to the top flight, meaning Sheffield United have to play in the Championship playoffs instead.

Bamford, who has had limited playing time this season, initiated the chant outside Elland Road, as captured in social media videos, reflecting the deep animosity between the Yorkshire rivals.

Back in 2019, Chris Wilder blasted ‘muppets from Leeds’ as Sheffield United secured promotion…

Wilder is heard saying: “The results we’ve had, one defeat in thirteen.

“They’ve got muppets from Leeds talking about [the] pressure [being] on us.

“Bamford and Forshaw and a couple of others, and it’s over to you and this, that and the other.

“They’ve been beaten seven times since Christmas, we’ve been beaten once. We’ve set it up from Christmas to be in the race and steamrolled it.”

He did however praise Bielsa at the time, adding: “I’ve got to say, full respect to Marcelo Bielsa in terms of the way he handled today.

“I think it was right, correct and proper.

“Not to back Patrick Bamford obviously. But, to the manager, I think he comes out with an enormous amount of credit and shouldn’t take any criticism whatsoever.”
