The Liverpool fan who clashed with ‘coward’ Diego Simeone issues a video statement, after a number of videos of the incident go viral.

In the 92nd minute of a match, Atletico Madrid’s manager Diego Simeone was sent off after an incident, reportedly for using foul and abusive language.

A fan, Jonny Poulter, claimed Simeone and his assistant provoked the crowd first, denying any racist remarks or references to the Falklands War. Poulter also criticised Simeone for dodging questions in the press conference, leaving room for speculation.

He admitted to swearing at Simeone but insisted it was in response to earlier taunts. The assistant manager allegedly spat at Poulter.

Just putting it out there. Nothing racist, no mention of any war or slurs of any kind.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone clashes with Liverpool fan and walks out of press interview

Jonny Poulter said: “Something I want to get off my chest here in regards to what happened last night with Simeone and I think he’s a bit of a coward.

“When he went and done his press conference after the game, the Spanish media has asked him what was said, if it was racist, if it was regarding the Falklands war and all this rubbish, right?

“There was nothing racist said by me or anyone else. There was never a mention of the Falklands war by me or anyone else.

“But the fact that he was asked it and he didn’t answer the question and he just got up and walked out, left it open for speculation for the world.

“I’ve had messages on every platform, I don’t know how many, of people saying, oh, what did he say, what did he say? I never said nothing apart from, whey, *sticks finger up* fuck off, whey, we’ve won, basically, as you do. But that’s what he done to us when he’s got the equaliser.

“He is assistant manager giving it away in front of us and obviously he was getting called a shit house or whatever else. yeah. And his assistant manager who came over and spat at me. Yeah. Yeah.”

A 1:05am on Thursday morning the fan in question reposted the clip alongside a comment that read: “Do I get the assist?”

Then he called out Simeone’s official page, mentioning him in a post with a GIF of David Brent and his trademark catchphrase: “Ooh, you’re hard.”
