Leeds warned to be careful as they eye candidates to replace Daniel Farke despite promotion

Leeds United are being warned to be careful as they eye candidates to replace Daniel Farke despite days after securing promotion.

Concerns surround Farke’s poor Premier League record, which includes a 15-game losing streak with Norwich City in 2021, at the time, setting a record for the longest losing run by any side in English top-flight history..

We see just how much of a struggle it is to survive in the Premier League in the last few campaigns. Gary Neville and Roy Keane debated just how big the gap is between the top and second tier. See that HERE.

Farke’s tenure at Leeds saw success in the Championship with 90 points in his first season, but the team failed to secure automatic promotion and lost the play-off final to Southampton, raising doubts about his ability to manage at the elite level.

The potential decision to sack Farke carries risks however, as the club acknowledges the move could backfire, especially given fan sentiment and the stability he brought during the promotion campaign.

Leeds Live reporter Isaac Johnson tweeted: “Leeds United making no comment on the reports that club are considering replacing Daniel Farke ahead of next season

“Insistence is the club are only and fully focusing on winning the title for the rest of this season #lufc”

Mail Sport report that “Elland Road bosses harbour reservations that the former Norwich City boss is the man to ensure what is viewed as vital top-flight survival.”

They add that no final decision has been made, and while those thinking if changing manager aware that such a controversial move could ending backfiring – not least with the club’s supporters.

Farke led Leeds to promotion on April 21, 2025, with a 6-0 victory over Stoke City, coupled with Burnley’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United, confirming their return to the top flight after two seasons in the Championship.

This marked Farke’s third Championship promotion, having previously achieved it twice with Norwich City. His current contract with Leeds runs until 2027, and he has expressed a long-term vision to establish the club as a sustainable Premier League force.

A report by Mike Keegan, suggested that Leeds’ US-based owners, 49ers Enterprises, are considering sacking Farke due to concerns over his past Premier League performances with Norwich, where his teams were relegated in 2019-20 and 2021-22.

On the other hand, the narrative around Farke’s tenure is overwhelmingly positive in recent reports. He has been praised for his leadership, achieving 94 points and 89 goals in the 2024-25 Championship season, transforming Elland Road into a fortress with only one home defeat, and fostering team unity despite the loss of key players like Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Georginio Rutter. Farke’s calm authority and strategic signings, such as Ethan Ampadu, have been highlighted as key to Leeds’ success.

As mentioned, Leeds have been warned to be careful as they eye candidates to replace Daniel Farke despite promotion…

@AndRusso_16: No comment = no denial of the rumour. If that wasn’t true, the club should have shut the rumour down. Two clubs in Italy did exactly that last week as there were rumours around about them sacking their managers. Worst time for it to come out to, during the title charge. #LUFC

@leedsthat: Bold bold bold. Got to be so careful with this.

@NUFC7890: 100% needs to happen. No where near good enough for the premier league and not dropping Meslier until the 42nd game a massive red flag

@AntonyCarlHiggs: Jesus. 2 days after promotion with the title still up for grabs, it’s a disgrace. If true, I understand why they’d do it based on history, but to not give him a chance because of the status quo of doing things now would turn the screw even tighter on ‘games gone’ for me. #lufc

@melve2010: Let’s not judge him on Norwich. Giving him £12.87 to stay up was never happening.

@MWardy21: Deserves a chance in my opinion, 2 seasons with 90+ points…. Yes with very good squads, but still it’s Leeds and it’s never that easy. Think he’ll want to prove a point and if he’s backed in the transfer market, let’s see how he starts at least.

@pdb1980: Timing on this absolutely sucks balls

@ronnier04: I’m all for either option but if we back him and give him 100 million plus on transfers then sack him in December our next manager will have a right mission

@AdamP1242: Rare approach to see the manager that has potentially won you the Championship title sacked but his track record in the Premier League is awful. Harsh but potentially a good gamble depending on the replacement

@StokeyyG2: I know you’ve got to give managers a chance but Farke isn’t a Premier League manager, he’s a quality championship gaffer. Brutal but honestly think it’s a good decision if they’ve lined up a better replacement.

@leeds2023456: Thought about fxcking someone over he got 9 million to spend when Norwich got promoted last time was the reason they were related not Farke.

@CFCZeno: Finally a promoted team using their brain, go get Sean Dyche, change it up completely.

@jamesmalloch: If true I don’t agree with this one bit. He has built this team and deserves his chance at prem level with a club that will financially back him. We’re not Norwich and he’s not gonna get £9mill to spend. He will have a giant amount to buy what we need. Ridiculous 😡

@CoyEoghan14: Harsh but the right call I think. Love farke but relegated twice from the premier league is not what we need

@pistol1603: This is the right thing to do also. We need to give ourselves the best chance. There is no sentiment in football. Farke is unproven at PL level, we need to review everything and farke needs to show how his tactics can work in the PL

@FrantheBlade: Go big or get relegated. There is no way Farke keeps Leeds up. He’ll be sacked after 10-15 games and then the club will be stuck with his signings. Get a big name in, attract top talent and bed down in the league for the forseeable.

@_LewisStant: To sack Farke would be very risky indeed, get it wrong and 49ers will cause irredeemable amounts of hate towards them… Get it right… Leeds could really launch themselves into the PL. Just wonder the dressing room would feel if this was to happen? #LUFC
