Police also made a number of arrests after trouble before MK Dons v AFC Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon. Two clips have been posted on social media, with both getting thousands of views and hundreds of comments reacting to what had happened.
Police were also contacted via social media about the trouble as a video emerges online after the Bristol City v Blackburn game on Saturday.
The video has gone on to get over 715,000 views within 16 hours of being posted on Twitter alone, as well as hundreds of comments and some tagging police to find culprits involved.
Two men, aged 20 and 49, were injured after the “unprovoked” attack, police say, assaulted by a group of men while leaving Ashton Gate Stadium after the game.
They had walked along Marina Dolman Way outside the stadium in south Bristol at the time of the incident, with Avon and Somerset Police saying it was aware of footage circulating on social media of the attack and would be using it to identify those responsible.
Sgt Sam Bracey described the incident as “completely unacceptable”, that the attack had been “unprovoked” and only brought to an end when members of the public stepped in.
“We’re making enquiries at pace to identify those responsible and we’re working closely with Bristol City Football Club to review all available CCTV,” he added.
“In addition to a criminal investigation, we’ll also be pursuing football banning orders, as there’s no place for this kind of indiscriminate violence in football.”
He urged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
Bristol City said they were “appalled” by the incident and would “take action against those who engage in such violent behaviour”, and they “fully support” any football-wide banning orders.
Meanwhile Torquay say they are to investigate an allegation of homophobic language made by a fan towards a referee in the game against Hampton & Richmond. The Gulls issued a statement addressing the alleged incident following the National League South fixture, and emphasise their commitment to inclusivity, safety, and well-being, condemning any form of discriminatory abuse.
In midweek, Man Utd issued a statement on Rangers fans in the home end, the fighting, and glass bottles thrown on the streets nearby the stadium.
The club say they had taken strict measures to prevent away fans from buying tickets in home areas, however despite this, Rangers fans were still able to takeover parts of the home end.
Police released footage of 19 year old Cambridge fan caught on CCTV making “monkey gestures” at Peterborough player Ricky-Jade Jones.
Ryan Asplen was this week banned from matches for three years after his arrest at the Peterborough United vs Cambridge United at the Weston Homes Stadium, where he was removed by stewards.
We’ve also seen Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson tell the EFL to do more to protect James McClean from abuse after the incident at Shrewsbury.
A number of videos emerged on social media last week showing objects thrown from the stands in the direction of McClean as Wrexham fell to a 2-1 League One defeat at Shrewsbury Town.
