Fans show Ruben Selles the red card after Sheffield United suffer fourth straight loss

Fans show Ruben Selles the red card after Sheffield United suffer a fourth straight loss following a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.

The result meanwhile sees Boro retain their 100% start to the season, thanks to Tommy Conway’s tidy finish from a pass from debutant Matt Targett. A dream start for Rob Edwards and his side, who will spend the international break sitting at the top of table.

The Blades are to spend the next two weeks at the bottom of the standings, after Oxford, also in the drop zone) drew 2-2 at home to Coventry.

There were chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ around the Riverside Stadium, and again from the away end at full time.

Sheffield United have also failed to score a goal in seven successive halves of league football.

Sheffield United head coach Ruben Selles told BBC Radio Sheffield:

“I’m disappointed of course, with the result and the situation that we have been living.

“It’s not going for us, we are going to keep fighting, keep going and keep trying to fight for that moment that is going to change the dynamic.

“I think we looked like a team today. Sometimes when you’re in those moments, it’s difficult but we played against a very good team and we had situations in the first half in a 50:50 game and then in the second half until they scored a goal, I think we were dominant.”

Selles said, per Sky Sports: “I cannot control the situation. I will expect to go to my house tonight and then tomorrow go to work and then continue as normal. It’s not in my hands to make a decision.

“And until the very last moment, I will just do my best and try to do my things. When the situation is not in my control, I don’t think too much about what is going to happen in the future. Because realistically, I do as much as I can.

“At least if I go out, whether that’s tomorrow or if it’s in three years, I will always go out with the feeling that I made the decisions that I want to make. Obviously that includes my mistakes, but my decisions were honest and what I thought was the correct thing to do in every single moment.

“I have been in worse situations and I end up just making the things happen and changing totally around the dynamics.

“So I don’t have a doubt about it. I’ve been in situations where I haven’t been paid on time, situations when they get points deductions, situations where we didn’t know if we would be able to train the next day at the training ground.

“And the reality is that we turned things around at the moment of connection. But you need to work hard to go to that moment and you need to go through a couple of critical moments on that journey.”

Ruben Selles on going over to the fans at the end: “I think it’s very simple. I think they were chanting my name, obviously, with a couple of more extra words.

“I’m not going to hide. My values are never going to hide. I’m actually not going to confront anybody.

“The fans are why we are here and if they are not happy with our work, they made that clear. There’s some other moments in some other clubs, not here yet, they chant your name because you’re doing a good job and then you are very pleased to go there and say hello.

“Then there is for other different reasons, you also need to stand up to yourself and face the reality. I think that was clear. So that was the reaction, it was not an intention to go against anybody, I felt it was the correct thing to do.”

Middlesbrough’s Rob Edwards, per Sky Sports:

“I’m really pleased. I thought overall it was a really good and accomplished performance.

“We deserved to win and I’m really pleased we got it, even if I’d like it to have been a bit more comfortable.

“There’s a good feeling around the place and that’s great and long may that continue. I want the fans to be able to enjoy watching their team and enjoy those moments and celebrate.

“It’s our job to try and provide those good moments and build that connection, but also to make sure we get level ahead of the next game.”

@2022BenjiC:
If you look up car crash
You will find this
0 goals in 7 half’s of football
1 all season
7 against
Hamer and O’hare for sale
Wilder sacked
Anyway your demise is absolutely epic

@JTurnz: Get Selles gone, admit defeat on a broken system and get a man who can get players playing again.

@sethsfilmreview: get Selles gone, absolute rubbish. Would’ve lost by 3/4 if not for Tanganga.

@hugowarhurstt: Do it tonight before the international break! Do not waste another 2 weeks hoping that this will change…

@chrishanlon90: Selles has to go! It’s not worked! Get someone in who knows how to play to our players strengths! Ryan One at RWB – burrows and Hamer looks the shadow that they were last season! it needs to change!

@KerrieRoebuck: Selles Out! We just aren’t creating owt. Our 3 best players from last season Gus, Tye & Cal are nullified under this system. Tanganga was excellent today and needs better at the side of him. A new Manager can make all the difference. A new start after the IB is needed.

@hanky_1: Thank Christ we signed Tanganga otherwise that’s 5 or 6-0! Men vs boys throughout. Could’ve carried on playing that game through the international break and we still wouldn’t have scored!

@MatlockBlade: That was utterly horrific! Middlesbrough weren’t much better but didn’t need to be. Players look totally lost and devoid of any structure or game plan. We are building a talented group of players. We just need someone to manage them and NOT this fraud.

@Ollie_Blade: No shots on target again, simply not good enough. How bad does it have to get before you make the decision that you’re ultimately going to have to make anyway COH?
