Boost of optimism for Sheffield Wednesday as update emerges regarding ‘stumbling block’

There is a boost of optimism for Sheffield Wednesday as an update emerges regarding a ‘stumbling block’ which has faced the club.

BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Rob Staton tweeted: “Understand Sheffield Wednesday are directing interested parties to a professional team with a proven track record of selling clubs, with the aim of completing a takeover. NDA’s being signed, proper process taking place #SWFC”

It comes just days with Wednesday now under a triple embargo due to non payment of players, outstanding HMRC payments and fees owed to other clubs.

We also have seen two consecutive months of staff not being fully paid, players who aren’t fully paid can walk away from their contracts in 14 days, intending to put their notice in, out of contract players are now free agents and a manager reportedly set to leave.

It is reported, per the BBC Sport website that Sheffield Wednesday are now pursuing a structured sale process, a shift from its previous stance.

Rob Staton states that the club has engaged a professional team experienced in football club sales, with NDAs signed, proof of funds requested, and a data room established for sharing sensitive documents.

This change addresses past issues where the lack of a formal process hindered takeover talks, with multiple parties are interested, and a sale is aimed to be completed in weeks to address cashflow problems, avoiding administration.

Non-football staff are awaiting full wage payments for May and June, while some players have given notice due to delayed wages.

The club faces three EFL embargoes for unpaid player wages, HMRC issues, and non-payment of transfer fees, plus a three-window transfer fee restriction.

Chansiri recently rejected a £40million offer with additional Premier League promotion payments. The new process may improve the likelihood of a successful sale.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Star reporter Joe Crann tweeted some more positive news: “Understand that #SWFC have now committed to doing the work required on the North Stand… Drones have been flown over the ground, and there is hope that the matter can soon be put to bed.

Twitter users react with a boost of optimism for Sheffield Wednesday as an update emerges regarding a ‘stumbling block’ which had be facing the club…

@SLswfc: How much time wasted and value lost if he’d just done this from the start 🤦🏻‍♂️

@MichaelBowers15: Always appreciate the class their fans showed with #SAFC fans since the play-off games three years ago. Hopefully this is the start of something good for a fanbase that’s been through this for far too long. #SWFC

@swfccom: Is this finally the beginning of the end? #SWFC

@Gooseowl18: Quick question @robstaton Your personal opinion. Can you tell me why he’s let the club basically die around him for past 2 months. He knew he was broke and couldn’t continue months ago. Why kill it before deciding. To do what he basically should have done from start. #swfc

@JonathanDaley: Glad Chansiri has finally seen sense! The value of the club has plummeted in the last few months. If he did this 6 months ago, he probably gets another £15-20m! #swfc

@Jamesy_boy: First actual good news for a decade. Someone’s clearly had a word. #swfc is been taken out of chansiris hand

@isthatdavidp: Following on from the news that was made public today, IMO, the club will be sold by the end of the month #swfc

@benswfc15: Rob Staton I fucking love you #swfc

@mattboswell_: Great news, later than we all would have liked but can only be positive going forward, hopefully the sale has been taken out of his hands and someone with sense will agree to the sale. #swfc

@AndyWilliams86: First time in 10 years the word proper process and professional been used #swfc

@stuvaughan61: Not wanting to put a downer on things and obviously big thanks to Rob and the team for their tireless efforts. But I’ll get excited when I see the photos of new owner(s) ont pitch holding a scarf up 🤞🦉💙

@JaynieJayne1: Hopefully the grown ups are taking over the process now. Bit late like but still, it can be built back up, just get him gone 👊🏻😃

@benswfc15: Rob Staton I fucking love you #swfc

@mattboswell_: Great news, glad we can hear something positive coming out after the past few months of doom and gloom. Hopefully a sale can be agreed quickly so as not lose too many players and staff #swfc

@myersowl068: Proper chap known to a few professionals. About 2 months behind where we should be if this sensible move had been done to start with

@nattasswfc: JOHNSON FLOATS IT IN TO FLINT, HEADED ACROSS THE FACE OF GOAL AND INNN FROM STATONNNN

@MrCJordan22: This is the best news since the season ended!!!! Time to be cautious still but fingers crossed 🤞 something can be promised to those players handing in notice to keep them and allow Bannan to sign that new contract! #swfc #wawaw
