Ange Postecoglou gives his first sit down interview as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach

Ange Postecoglou gives his first sit down interview as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach, expressing excitement and pride in joining.

He highlighted the responsibility he feels to uphold the club’s legacy and build on its recent success, including their return to European competitions.

Postecoglou spoke about his attacking football philosophy, with the hope of exciting fans while maintaining the squad’s existing unity and work ethic.

He noted the importance of his coaching staff in fast-tracking his vision, given the immediate challenges, including four away games before his home debut.

There was praise for the squad’s culture and leadership, expressing optimism about integrating new players and competing in the Premier League and Europa League.

Postecoglou ended by saying he is eager to connect with the club’s passionate supporters and sees great potential for growth, drawing on his extensive global football experience to earn the trust of players, staff, and fans.

Speaking to Forest TV, Ange talked about the club’s rich history, the responsibility of taking on the challenge and the excitement of what’s to come.

He said: “The one thing that hits you the most when you go into a new role is the responsibility. It’s a fantastic football club with great history and, even in recent times, it has done really well.

“You bear that responsibility, but I’m excited and I’m looking forward to it and I’m really happy to be here.

“This Club has real ambitions and that’s really important to me. We’ve got an exciting squad. Playing against the Club last season, you could tell there was a really strong unity across the Club and you want to be a part of that because you know that’s what’s required to be successful.”

“I’ve worked myself into this position over the past 28 years because I’ve never put any limits on what I want to achieve. Wherever I’ve been, I’ve been fortunate to have success which has allowed me to take that next step.”

Forest will compete in the Premier League for a fourth successive season and in the Europa League for the first time since the mid-1990s, and Ange says the current period is one supporters can be really excited about.

“When you look at what the Club has achieved in recent times, it’s an outstanding feat to be where we are right now. Other clubs that have won promotion have struggled to stay in the league, but in a short space of time we’re back in Europe and competing for honours, which is a great credit to everyone involved.

“I get a sense that the Club wants more and that’s certainly what I want, so I think it’s a really exciting time.

“I understand the history of this football club and I understand there’s a responsibility there, and I’ll bear that responsibility. I’m honoured and I’m humbled, but more importantly I’m determined to make sure this football club takes its rightful place.”

“I love winning things. That’s what I’ve done,” Postecoglou added.

“From my perspective now it’s about implementing my own ideas. It’s no secret I like my teams to attack, I love my teams to score goals.

“That is sometimes misconstrued as me just playing one way, but the reason I want my team to play that way is because I love winning things and that is what I want to do here.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Ange Postecoglou gives his first sit down interview as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach…

@forestmad80: Oozes charisma, has a calming aura about him and think he’s gonna be a great success. Buckle up.

@LeesaMareeJ: As an Aussie I love Big Ange! He’s awesome. What I don’t like is the way Nuno was sacked. And Cooper. Seems to be a pattern of Marinakis not following managers’ recommendations and then sacking the manager. This is 🐂💩

@tottenham_mail: Ange delivered Spurs’ first trophy in 17 years under the most toughest regime in the prem, managing Spurs with Levy at the helm. I think he will deliver at Forest too, plus they have squad depth. Good luck Ange 👊 3 points vs Arsenal on Saturday

@chris_bill: Do I think he’s a good coach no … not at all … but do I like the guy yeah I do .. I love him for the cup final win and backing us to get that trophy we craved … he’s a ballsy bastard & I hope he does well at Forest but I’m much happier with Frank

@RichySouthern: Thought we’d seen the back of this misery guts. More interviews staring at the floor and trying to be a smart arse incoming. #mate

@jonhotspur1988: “It’s sometimes misconstrued as, I can only play one way but the reason I want my teams to play that way is cus I love winning things.” – Again, the thing he won at Spurs he did by NOT playing that way. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@M8_uW0t: I couldn’t even finish watching the full Ange interview. As a club can we stop stop with the “how proud are you to be at this club” style questions? It’s the same answer everytime cause what do you expect people to say? #NFFC

@NFFC_Callum: We are gonna see Ange holding the Europa league trophy again won’t we 😍🌳 #nffc

@UberForest: Totally see why Marinakis wanted him. He’s ambitious and not scared to take on the best. Like the big man himself
