Manager Calum McIntyre told Chester FC TV: β€œThe FA Cup, brilliant. It’s why we want to be in it.

β€œDid really well over the tie. So, a tough test.

β€œListen, I’m real that we’ve played a side that are at the bottom of the division above.

β€œBut, it’s a side that were playing in the Football League last year, that have a massive advantage in terms of resources, contact time, the ability around salaries for players, that makes it massively tough for those National League North sides to beat those National League outfits, and I thought we played a type of way on Saturday that’d give us the opportunity to get back here and I thought we took that opportunity.

β€œI think the timing of the goals won’t reflect how good we were this evening, that I thought we could have been 2-0 up after a quarter-of-an-hour.

β€œTonight, I thought we played our game and we’ve been really strong here.

β€œThere’s a real belief here and to have those moments late on, unbelievable, and that is why we love this competition and that’s what this group of players are all about.

β€œMaximum commitment, maximum effort, keep going and for them to have had those moments, the two goals, full-time, is really special and they deserve that.

β€œBut, so do our supporters that have stuck with us.”

Morecambe boss Ashvir Singh Johal said: “I the last few games we’ve had since the Gateshead game, we’ve seen a lot better performances.

“We did consistent work on effort, on attitude, on desire, on commitment. And the three games before this game, we showed that in abundance.

“Today we didn’t show anything at the level we wanted to. So was a really disappointing performance.”

Interviewer: “And Chester made things difficult from the first whistle. What do you think we struggled with most in trying to break them down?”

Ashvir: “We struggled with our mentality, our mentality to want to compete, to want to win, to want to run more than the guy we were against. So the work we’ve done in the last few weeks today, we didn’t see any of that.

“And it’s really disappointing because we thought we were so close to having the team we wanted, uh especially in parts of the Scunthorpe game, the Tamworth game. But today we made it really, really difficult for ourselves.”

Interviewer: “And you’ve spoken a lot about learning moments. What can the lads take away from a night like this?”

Ashvir: “Today we need to park. We need to move on quickly. We’ve got a league game on Saturday, we’ve got a league game on Tuesday, and a league game on Saturday.

“We’ve got three games in a week, and our priority’s got to be now is to put in a better performance like we know we can in those games.”

Interviewer: “And how important is it to quickly park this one and move on to the league?”

Ashvir: “Yeah, that’s the most important thing. Today, really disappointed. But we know we can do better. We’ve seen that in the last few games.

“We should have competed better in this game to have our first chance, real chance on goal in the 91st minute. It isn’t good enough. It’s not what we want.

“And to switch off like we did for their first goal from a quick throw in so late into the game, we need to move on from these moments and we need to make sure we’re better in the next three games”.
