Who could England play in the World Cup Round of 16?

After England confirmed their place in the knockout rounds of the World Cup after thrashing Panama 6-1 at the weekend, we take a look at who the Three Lions could face once the group stage is over.

England and Belgium are level for points, goals scored and goal difference ahead of Thursday’s showdown in Kaliningrad, but England’s superior fair play record (they have only received two bookings to Belgium’s three) puts them in first place as it stands.

Who could England play in the Round of 16?

England will face either Japan, Senegal or Colombia in the next stage of the World Cup.

Poland have lost their opening two games of the tournament so have been eliminated, but none of the other three teams have guaranteed qualification for the knockout stages.

The remaining Group H fixtures see Japan play Poland and Senegal take on Colombia.

Japan and Senegal know that if they avoid defeat in their games then they will be into the last 16, a draw may be enough for Colombia, but they need a win to guarantee qualification.

If England finish first in Group G…

They’ll play Monday 2nd July at 7pm against the runner-up of Group H (Match 54)

 

If England finish second in Group G…

They’ll play Tuesday 3rd July at 7pm against the winner of Group H (Match 56)
