What Was the Greatest England Squad for the Euros?

If you ask any football fan their opinion on the greatest England squad that ever was you’ll get very mixed results. People definitely have strong opinions on football and the state of the England squad is no exception. The UEFA Euro 2020 was delayed last year and is now due to take place from 11th June 2021, but what will the match have in store?

Stand Out England Players

There are several names that stand out in modern professional football when it comes to the England squad – Thierry Henry & Harry Kane are certainly names that most modern England fans will know, but good players are nothing new for the national team. Look at little further back and people like Thierry Henry did our team proud before that Michael Owen and David Beckham did their bit and even David Seaman before that kept the England team doing well as an internationally renowned goalkeeper.

Which England Squads Have Done The Best?

England have a long history of doing well at football matches, so the number of teams they have that have done well is phenomenal. Lots of people highly rate the 1970s England team that did well and numerous matches including the European Championships. The 1996 team did well thanks to the likes of Tony Adams and Alan Shearer – they did amazingly well including their infamous game against the Netherlands, where they lost on penalties, but most people agree that they were robbed of a sure-win due to the fantastic gameplay they put in throughout the whole 90-minute game. The team in 2001 was coached but its first-ever international coach Sven Goran Eriksson, who led the team to win 5-1 against Germany when he took over in 2001.

If you want to talk about the best England squad ever, regardless of whether they played the Euros or not then you have to mention 1966 – where England beat Germany to win the World Cup. To date, this is still England’s only victory at the World Cup and a lot of fans still deem this as the best team that England have ever had.

The UEFA Euro 2020

Without a doubt, football fans will have all eyes on the England squad as we enter the Euros this summer. The tournament was due to take place last summer and has been delayed, so with an extra 52 weeks to practice and perfect their gameplay, there will be some big expectations for the team – their first stage matches are against Croatia, Scotland and the Czech Republic and they’ll need to do well in each give if they want to progress through the different group stages.

Players that we’ll be relying on to bring us home the winning title include Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling – both have over 50 caps and as such, are well experienced at playing high profile games. All eyes will be on them as they play and help to bring the team to victory, especially England captain Harry who will no doubt be feeling the pressure.
