Exeter City’s Aaron Martin manage to pull off a bizarre goal from inside his own half as his side went on to lose against Forest Green Rovers at the weekend.
Rovers were cruising in the second half after they scored two goals in 22 minutes through Reece Brown and Liam Shephard however they received a late scare when the Grecians got a goal back in stoppage time in unusual circumstances.
Former Oxford, Coventry, Southampton and Eastleigh centre-back Aaron Martin hit a long ball from inside his own half, went straight to keeper Robert Sanchez who mis-controlled it, leading the ball to go through his legs and back into the net.
The home fans, that were left remaining in the ground, were amused and could be heard laughing as the keeper held his his head in his arms and leaned against the post with embarrassment.
Check out the how it played out on the video below…

The result meant Exeter City couldn’t go to the top of the table but instead remained third after an impressive start to the season under new manager Matt Taylor, replacing Paul Tisdale who left the club after 12 years in charge and headed for MK Dons, who also sit in the top three of League Two along with Lincoln City.
Forest Green stayed in the playoffs in 6th. They are having a much improved season after they spent much of 2017/18 in the relegation zone before going on to escape the drop.
Following the game between Exeter and Forest Green, both sides’ supporters were left unhappy, however some did jokingly suggest the goal for Sky Sports’ Goal of the Day – take a look at that reaction on the next page.
