It wasn’t just the Potteries derby that had troublesome scenes last night, as there were heated scenes during Brighton & Hove Albion’s clash with Crystal Palace.
It was reported that prior to the game, violence broke out between both sets of fans and the police outside the seaside resort town’s train station.
At the Amex Stadium, also before kick off, a fan had a scuffle with Wilfried Zaha. A Brighton fan went to shake Zaha’s hand, before pulling his hand away and gave him abuse.
The trouble didn’t stop there as on the pitch, Shane Duffy received a red card for headbutting Patrick van Aanholt shortly after Glenn Murray put the Seagulls one up in the 24th minute.
The Palace player fell to the ground and the referee sent Duffy off without hesitation.
