An update has been given on 20 year old non league footballer Jack Marshall who suffered cardiac arrest during a game for Kempston Rovers.
He’s currently recovering in the hospital after the medical emergency as he was playing an away game against Hadley FC in Barnet on Saturday.
Hadley tweeted at the time: “There is a long stoppage in play due to an incident with a Kempston player, an ambulance has now arrived.
“Today’s match has been abandoned due to a serious issue with the Kempston keeper who is on his way to hospital, he is now stable and in good hands, we hope he makes a speedy recovery.”
A huge thank you to @Kempston_Rovers & @hadleyfc players, management and supporters. @JackDanielMars1 suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch, he has an ICD that thankfully did it’s job! He is awake and grateful to everyone 🙏💙 pic.twitter.com/JzVZ9JE7iv

Tom Lockyer has an ICD exactly like @JackDanielMars1 so for him to get a message from his idol means the world❤️ pic.twitter.com/ag6S6IuXTn
Kempston Rovers tweeted: “Jack Marshall is in a stable condition, we will update fans accordingly. Thank you for those who travelled today.”
The Southern League said: “The game at Hadley was abandoned due to a cardiac arrest for Kempston Rovers goalkeeper, Jack Marshall, to whom we send our very best wishes for a speedy recovery. We also send our appreciation to the medical staff who looked after him so well and all involved for the way in which this serious situation was handled.”
Kempston manager Richard Keil tweeted: “On behalf of @Kempston_Rovers Jack is stable in hospital being well looked after. Thank you to the referee for quickly recognising the seriousness of the situation. To my staff and everyone @hadleyfc thank you. You were amazing. I witnessed football coming together today ❤️”
Dan Tomlinson, Labour’s Candidate for Chipping Barnet, said: “So relieved to see this after a very worrying end to play for all us fans pitch side today @hadleyfc. Want to add too just how impressed I was by the referee, who spotted almost immediately that Jack was in distress, and knew right away to call for an ambulance.”
Jack’s mother tweeted: “A huge thank you to @Kempston_Rovers & @hadleyfc players, management and supporters. @JackDanielMars1 suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch, he has an ICD that thankfully did it’s job! He is awake and grateful to everyone 🙏💙”
@PatNixon789 also wrote: “From all three officials who officiated your game today, it’s amazing to see Jack up and well. Sending our best wishes for the future and hope to see you out on the pitch again soon. ⚽️⚽️”
Jack collapsed on the field, before being taken to hospital, but according to his mother, Samantha Marshall, he’s expected to return home in the coming days.
A few years ago, he had an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) fitted which successfully revived him after four attempts.
This is a device like the one fitted to Luton’s Tom Lockyer after he collapsed during a match against Bournemouth in December.
Kempston Rovers boss Richard Hill said he felt the defibrillator activate as he tried to check the player’s pulse.
He recalled: “I was feeling for his pulse and it went off. He looked at me and went ‘where am I’.
“He’s had it for seven years, and it’s never gone off, and this was the first time.”
Richard Hill also praised his team, Hadley FC and all the officials at the ground for quick thinking and helping deal with the medical emergency.
Jack’s mother added: “I would like to thank the squad, the managers, the officials and the fans for their incredible support
“He’s been perfect since he got into the hospital, he’s feeling well and he just wants to go home.”
The footballer has previously raised about £16,000 for Great Ormand Street Hospital’s cardiac unit.
Funds were raised through charity balls organised by him and his family.
In February, Mr Marshall was the first responder after his father collapsed and received 845 volts from his own ICD.
So proud of @JackDanielMars1 his Dad collapsed on the golf course infront of him yesterday, his ICD initiating 845 volts! Jack kept calm, called 999 instructed people, advised the paramedics of his Dad’s condition and kept me informed until I could get to them #proud #realhero 🙏 pic.twitter.com/reEyFSreYf
