Tottenham fan was arrested after throwing a banana skin at Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following yesterday’s North London derby.
In what was a thrilling but ill-tempered game, Aubameyang scored two goals, one in each half, in the Gunners’ 4-2 win over Spurs. He opened the scoring in the 10th minute after converting from the spot.
But during his celebration of his opener, a banana skin was thrown from the away end towards the goalscorer. According to reports, the ‘fan’ who had thrown it has been arrested and a Spurs spokesman said they will be banned.

Pleased to learn that the Spurs fan who threw a banana skin at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during #ARSTOT match has been arrested. Whether a ban from @SpursOfficial is enough is another story. The club’s spokesman said: “Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and the supporter in question will be issued with a ban.”
Ian Wright also said on Match of the Day 2: “I’ve played against Spurs and I’ve taken a lot of abuse but never ever has it been racial.
“Now Spurs have to deal with this because some idiot has done that. It’s not only embarrassed Spurs but it has embarrassed the Premier League because it has gone around the world.
“It’s really unfortunate to see.”
Other trouble during the game saw players having to be separated follow Eric Dier’s equaliser in the first half. Dier celebrated by putting his finger to his lips, however Stephan Lichtsteiner didn’t take it well, causing tempers to flare.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino sprinted down the side of the pitch to help calm the situation.
Dier said: “I had my back to it all so I’m not too sure what happened.
“But this is football. It’s a derby. Football is all about emotion and I don’t understand how I can get a yellow card in that situation.
“It baffles me because if you take the emotion out of football you’re going to destroy the game for everyone.”
It was also revealed that six more fans were arrested, at least two of those were for setting of a smoke bomb.
Football fans on Twitter took to give their reaction to the banana skin being thrown at Aubameyang and they certainly didn’t hold back their feelings – take a look at what they have to say on the next page.
