The worst trends in football has been revealed and it causes controversy with fans as the subject trending on social media site Twitter.
It’s fair to say plenty has changed in recent decades in football, whether it’s in the stands, on the pitch or outside the ground, during, before or after a match.
Hooliganism, meeting and greeting players, goal celebrations, chants, posting on social media, merchandise and a whole lot more are just some of the things brought up by supporters.
A post was uploaded to Twitter poking fun at some of the things they’ve seen at matches but taken a disliking to, find irritating or cringe… and below is just some examples.

@JimmyTheBlade1: Worst trend in football? Kids with cardboard signs begging for players’ shirts 🤮🤮🤮
@shane_robshaw: Imagine getting upset about a kid wanting there hero’s shirt. 🤦♂️
@JimmyTheBlade1: Imagine encouraging your kid to beg for something… 👎🏻 It’s meant to be a great gesture by a player, which is why those moments were treasured by the lucky few, not a divine right for the kid that pushes forward with a sign.
@kevinhatchard: Completely agree with this. They are everywhere now, at every game. It was cute to start with, but now all it does is set kids up for disappointment, and make things awkward for players. It used to be really rare and spontaneous.
@dylmango: I’d actually argue that maybe the racism, homophobia, corruption, World Cups facilitated by slave labour, or players being outed as abusive every second week take the cake on this one but you do you James mate.
@CollieWoods: It’s definitely kids holding signs for their heroes and not the racist abuse, drug and alcohol fuelled violence, only sport in the world where fans need to be segregated, or grown men living for the chance to shout at the people they’ve paid to see 🤷♂️
@Stonesy14: My kid is 9. He has been to several Spurs home games and sat pitch side for most of them. He knows that kids with signs are basically parent puppets who probably don’t like football. My kid wants away games and will probably be rewarded with a stone island jacket soon😂😂
@ashkitson1867: Filming yourself at a game
@Newcogers456: Ball Boys/girls/fans not returning balls into play to time waste…
@coachpotatoed:
Grown men fighting over Twitter about football.
Grown men fighting in the stands
Grown men fighting in streets at games
Grown men smashing up shop fronts and pubs at away games
Grown men throwing missiles at players doing their job
Grown men… shall I go on?
@top7664: It’s up there with goal music.
@town_sec: Groundhoppers who criticise clubs if they run out of programmes or do them online. Clubs at non league don’t have the luxury of printing lots of spare Incase needed. They estimate how many they will need.
@davidpick1987: You know what’s worse than that? Adults with cardboard signs asking for players shirts.
@russcooper2: Wank chant when a goalie takes a goal kick, embarrassing
@PickardsTours: Plus the sex offender chant aimed at anyone and everyone.
@AlecHitchSUFC: People sending their kids onto the pitch to get a player’s shirt because they know if they went on, they’d get arrested – or just kids invading the pitch in general
@jegrist: The sharp rise in cocaine/alcohol related incidents among young ‘fans’ in all levels of league football
@ArsenaII1: Not stopping the clock when the ball is out of play and randomly selecting a number of minutes to be added on.
@Davidgt84: Fans running into the ground to try take a selfie with their favourite player
@TheExiledRobin: Kids running on the pitch far worse
@db1259: Standing one yard in front of the ball at a free kick and not moving – with the free kick taker then invariably passing it backwards to a team mate instead of just blasting the ball off the opponent’s gonads 😮💨
@marksherbs: Half and Half scarves 🤢
@graemeh1984: The vast majority of football is shit now. I couldn’t tell you the last time I watched a game other than Everton. I don’t know anything about the teams that come to Goodison or who most of the players are. People get too worked up by it as well
@ThisDan1: The absolute worst is judging how “good” a player is only by goals/assists, that shows how much a person doesn’t care about the beautiful game in general.
@King_Kong_83: Applauding opposing fans, players or goals and also recording opposing players or them scoring 🤮
@conradmacvicar: Wearing a football top over your jumper
@cockonball: People filming every corner on their phone in case it’s a goal (and blocking the view of the game for people behind them).
@andym5588: Id say supposedly grown men throwing plastic chairs at the windows of Family restaurants In towns/cities of away games and that kind of stuff being worse tbh
@CouchNish: I dunno, I still wake up in sweats hearing those bloody Vuvuzelas from the South African World Cup 🤯
