The LGBT Icons of Sport: Career and Personal Life

These days, you can find LGBT icons in all walks of life, and they are doing amazingly well in sports. From male figure skaters and rugby to freestyle skating and golf, gays, lesbians, and transsexuals are breaking and setting new records. Renee Richards rocked the tennis field and became the first transgender athlete to play professional tennis. And as far as lesbian representation in football is concerned, you will not be disappointed to see so many of them playing at the top level.

How Do Lesbian Football Players Connect Personal Life and Work?

Lesbian football players faced many restrictions and were forced to hide their true sexual identity in the past. Things have changed considerably, and you can find lesbians proudly coming out to challenge the stereotypes and bigotry in football. Homophobia is still a large part of professional football, keeping both gays and lesbians from getting equal opportunities compared to their “straight” counterparts.

This often makes lesbian players come out in public and talk about educating players to combat homophobia and change football’s “toxic” culture for these players. So many of them are even active in online forums to educate others, make new connections and empower their communities. A great way they use to balance personal life and work is through online dating sites. These platforms offer the best opportunities to lesbian hookups with women who love sports and even want to be a footballer themselves.

Dating Site to Break Barriers and Loneliness

Finding a suitable partner has always been an issue for lesbian footballers, which is why the idea of joining dating sites is growing stronger by the day. It gives them a way to vent out, share the activities, find some entertainment, and meet real-life partners who truly understand what belonging to a sexual minority means.

Bisexual women who love the idea of dating professional athletes also find these dating sites worth a shot. Joining them is simple, and you instantly feel comfortable knowing every member belongs to the LGBTQ community and is willing to speak from their heart. Lesbian footballers, in particular, are focused on getting a separate identity for themselves.

Things have improved with many former lesbian players who graduated and then eventually became lesbian coaches or managers. Steffi Jones from Germany is a great example who now represents senior management at FIFA. Great Hope Power and Sweden’s Pia Sundhage are other good examples to consider.

Top 3 Football LGBT Players that Stand Icon of the Sport

Today, it is common to see many gays and lesbian athletes playing in local sports leagues as well as on national teams. Not only do they compete in regional divisions, but they also impress everyone with their skills in world cups and the Olympic Games. So many of them are quickly becoming household names because of all the success they have achieved through sheer hard work and by overcoming what people think of them because of their sexual orientation. Here are some of the best names from the world of football.

Abby Wambach

A retired soccer player, a proud member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, and a seasoned coach, Abby Wambach from the U.S. is truly an LGBT icon of sports. She is so popular that she now has a new Barbie design solely dedicated to her. She won two Olympic gold medals along with a World Cup. She was also the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year six times, which is still a record to be broken. What makes her so unique is how comfortable she always was about accepting her sexuality. She never let her sexual orientation come in her way and achieve her dreams. She was also very vocal about her sexuality in her personal life and eventually married her long-time partner in 2013.

Megan Rapinoe

Yet another popular soccer player from the U.S., Rapinoe, knows how to turn heads with her incredible performance. She plays as a winger and captains the U.S. national team. In 2019, she even won the Best FIFA Women’s Player. She will always be remembered for her goal that she scored directly from a corner kick in the 2012 London Summer Olympics. She is openly gay and belongs to many LGBT organizations.

Lilian Parr

When you talk about lesbian football players, you simply cannot keep Parr out of that list. She is the very first openly lesbian player to challenge the stereotypical thoughts about homosexuality in British society. She played as a winger and was the only female player to make it to the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002.

Considering how involved the LGBTQ individuals are in sports, it seems no time would be able to win a championship without them in the near future. So many of them are already unapologetically out and proud of their sexuality that it seems they are going to gain more recognition in the coming years by continuously outperforming their straight teammates. They are becoming more confident, and that is because of all the support they get online and offline, including dating sites where they hang out to meet new bisexual men and women and enjoy quality dating. So, be part of a good dating platform, and you never know when you might end up dating an LGBTQ icon of sports.
