Sheff Utd’s Billy Sharp ‘reveals’ which non league club he’ll join ‘in 3/4 years time’

Billy Sharp and his Sheffield United side have had a spectacular season as they continue to battle it out with Norwich City and Leeds United for a place in the Premier League next season.

33 year old Sharp has become the leading goalscorer in English league football during the 21st Century triggered a further contract extension (until 2020) after playing his 23rd game of the season and was selected to the 2018–19 Championship Team of the Season.

The striker however jokingly suggested that he would sign for a non league club ‘in 3/4 years’ whilst congratulating a new manager.

That club was Central Midlands Football League side Retford United who named Liam Kay as their new manager.

Part of their statement read: “Liam has shown his drive and ambition whilst managing the development team. This type of attitude is a breath of fresh air much needed within the First Team.

“Liam has a wide range of experience within various non-league football teams, his tactical thinking and knowledge of the game I am sure will help to guide and push the team further.

“I am excited to see what Liam brings, and with his help turn the club into an environment where players have the opportunity to develop their skills and grow as players, from juniors to development to first team.”

Sharp tweeted to the new boss, saying: “Go on then son @LiamKay11 good luck pal, keep him as manager for 3/4 years Mr Chairman and I’ll sign.”
