Ray Parlour deletes post and apologises for ‘insensitive’ tribute video to Kevin Campbell

Ray Parlour deletes his Twitter post and apologises for an ‘insensitive’ tribute video to Kevin Campbell who died age 54.

News of the former footballer turned pundit’s death was announced on Saturday morning, after it had been announced earlier this month that he became ‘very unwell’.

Mail Sport said that his health issues began with a stroke suffered a few months ago, then developed kidney failure and his weight had dropped to nine stone by the time of his death.

He tried to be positive despite his declining health, even messaging old Arsenal teammates saying to them that he was fine.

But understandably they are left heartbroken by the news of his passing on Saturday morning.

Parlour wrote on Twitter: “Devastated hearing the news this morning RIP Kevin 🥲 Great player and even nicer Fella 🙏😞 Thoughts with his family at this tough time 🙏”

Parlour then posted a now-deleted video of himself and appeared to pour himself a shot of Jagermeister and Cobra lager,. In the video he used the phrase “life goes on”, which offended some Twitter users.

He added in a further tweet: “I apologise if I have upset anyone in my last post I’m whole heartedly didn’t mean to come across insensitive i loved Kevin and I’m honestly devastated for his family and friends at this terrible time I’m sending all my love to them and any one who came across this amazing man.”

Meanwhile on ITV, Ian Wright could be seen visibly emotional as he paid tribute to his former Arsenal teammate.

“I can’t really go too deep into it because it’s very fresh. I only heard this morning.

“My best wishes and condolences go to his family. It’s too soon for me to talk about it. Any time I start talking it I start to well up.

“He meant the whole world to a lot of people and especially myself.”

Alan Shearer said during BBC’s coverage of the Euros: “I was lucky enough to play with him in the (England) under-21s and work with him in bits on TV over the years.

“He had an infectious personality, and a great character, and you can see with the outpouring of grief today, how much he will be missed. So sending all our condolences to his family and friends. Such sad news.”
